MANAGING MULTI-GENERATIONS IN THE BARBADIAN WORKPLACE – The Silent Crisis & New Strategies of Human Relations Management For the first time since World War II, we are experiencing in the Western World the interesting phenomenon of having four generations in the workplace sitting and working side by side. In some cases, the baby boomers are working next to their children and grandchildren of generations X and Y. This phenomenon has attracted a lot of attention on the part of HR practitioners in the USA but little research has been done to date in the Caribbean. This paper will therefore seek to address a similar phenomenon taking place in the Caribbean through the writer's own experience while serving on the Management Team of a local statutory corporation. The findings, though preliminary, are oft times humorous but can serve as a linchpin to help us better understand the root cause of many of today's personnel issues within the workplace. The paper further suggests that identifying this phenomenon is a first step to creating solutions that cut across the needs of these four generations.

This paper is located in what is referred to as policy critique within the theoretical framework of International Political Economy (IPE) which, by origin, seeks to problematize issues of policy. In 1994, celebrated Brazilian economist, Reinaldo Gonsalves produced an important thesis and model on how to measure a country’s global insertion. At that time, Gonsalves could not have foreseen the influence of the Internet on global trade or on domestic trade policies. As such, the issue of global digital connectivity now presents itself as another pillar to measure global insertion. By examining regional Caribbean policy in this regard, this is an opportunity to advance Gonsalves’ model stimulate further on the opportunities associated with global digital connectivity.

5G cellular communications opens an opportunity for a wider realm in networking, one which can encompass the Internet (including IOT). With D2D, Device-to-Device communications, devices can cluster themselves into high power computing platforms. We show the practicality of mapping RDMA over wireless. Think wireless InfiniBand or wireless OmniPath. The ensuing number of cluster can be exponentially larger than the number of devices. Clusters can run side-by-side as multi instance software. See how protocol-free networking becomes realistic as D2D clusters facilitate networking code becoming loadable, user-space software.
