Setting The entire setting of this cutscene takes place in an old arcade, this is known
because of the ambient hum of machines and screens, the fact Ellie says “man, for a
second I thought I was gonna play it”, and a bit later on, Ellie can also be heard
clicking buttons and moving the joystick on an arcade machine.
Through dialogue again, the setting does change, although the sequence is still
taking place in the arcade due to the fact Ellie can still be heard hitting buttons on
the arcade machine.
The setting changes to the shadow temple, which is indicated through dialogue,
which appears to be set somewhere in Asia due to the choice of music used in the
cutscene, which features a lot of drums and exotic instruments.
The sound effects in this cutscene were probably
done using foley artistry, using objects to simulate
the sounds they actually need to set the scene.
The ambient sound in this cutscene could have
either been done in location in an actual arcade,
or maybe using foley artistry with a set of
computers.
The music in this game was probably created
using a set of musicians who specialised in
different instruments.
Mood The mood of this cutscene is quite a playful one, we can tell this from the
conversation between Ellie and Riley in the scene, as they are talking about playing
through an imaginary fighting game, to make up for the fact that all the arcade
machines are broken
Halfway through the cutscene, however, the mood changes to quite a tense one, as
indicated by the music that begins when Riley asks Ellie to imagine playing a fighting
game, and the sound switches us to the setting of the game she is asked to imagine
through the use of intense music that brings the tension up through the use of
drums and low sounds.
The dialogue in this scene was likely created using
voice actors in a recording studio.
The music in the cutscene was also likely done
using different musicians, and then put together
in editing.
Game genre I think the genre of this game is probably post-apocalyptic, due to the fact that we The sound effects in this cutscene were likely

can clearly hear that both Ellie and Riley are in an abandoned arcade that is shown
through dialogue and ambient sounds, something that would not occur in a normal
would, as it would be boarded up and closed off from the public.
However, I would also say that the genre changes part way through the cutscene to
a fighting game, as this is indicated by the music changing, as well as sound effects,
as the sounds of exaggerated hitting does not quite fit the post-apocalyptic setting
that the first part of this cutscene is trying to achieve.
created using foley artistry, using objects to
create different sounds to pass as other sounds.
Dialogue was likely recorded in a recording studio
with voice actors reading lines.
The exaggerated music was likely recorded using
musicians in a recording studio.
Narrative The narrative in this scene is mainly told through dialogue, we know that the
cutscene is set in an arcade, because of the ambient hum of arcade machines and
the fact Ellie can be heard hitting one of them, and clicking the buttons on it.
The cutscene is about Ellie and Riley, who are in an old arcade; we know this
because Ellie can be heard hitting the side of the machine, and complaining about
the condition of the arcade machine through dialogue. We also know they are in an
arcade because of the ambient sound of arcade machines.
After Ellie indicates that the arcade machine is broken by banging on it and
complaining about the condition of it, Riley tricks Ellie into imagining the game
herself through dialogue.
The dialogue in this cutscene was likely done
using voice actors and recorded in a recording
studio.
The pressing of the buttons on the arcade
machine may have been recorded from an actual
arcade machine to get a more realistic sound.
The ambient sound in this cutscene was likely
recorded on location in an actual arcade or in a
room full of computers using foley artistry.
