In many IT projects one of the main reasons of failures is not the technology itself but ineffective communication caused by lack of empathy. In many situations it is really hard to find common language between business stakeholders, end users, and IT. I observed that IT people are quite geeky and hermetic and most of the cases that's the main reason of problems. I started searching for at least a partial solution to the problem and came up with the idea of altergames. Altergame is a sort of a role playing game in which players try to impersonate characters that contrast with their native personality. Being a totally different person, the player is forced to face bizarre quests. That stimulates his creativity and allows for trying out unusual solutions in safe environment. Altergames might be use in IT for different purposes. The obvious ones like team integration, conflict solving, motivation, etc and the ones resulting from today's needs like usability, user experience, introducing agile to the team/customer (and many others).
