2. What is Application Software?
The application software is a set of program
that enables the computer to carry out one or
more specific task.

3. Types of Application Software
General-purpose software
Custom-written software
Specialised software
Integrated Software

4. General Purpose Software
The general purpose software is the most popularly
used application software. It is not specific to any
organization or business. It can be used by anyone.
Examples of this include Microsoft word, Microsoft
Access, Microsoft Powerpoint, Paint etc.

5. Custom-written Software
This software is also known as tailor-made.
It is the modified version of the general-
purpose software. It is used to perform
specific tasks by the user.

6. Specialized Software
Specialized software is written solely for specific tasks.
The users of these software must be trained in the
particular field of expertise. Examples of specialized
software are software used by air traffic controller,
accounting software, airline reservation and so on.

7. Integrated Software
Integrated software is a program that includes all
major types of applications and brings them
together into a single software package. A very
popular example of this is Microsoft.

8. Advantages of Integrated Software
 Good value for money
 The user interface is the same through out
 Takes up less memory than separate
applications

9. Disadvantages of Integrated Software
 Some integrated packages do not include
all of the applications they may require.
 Not all of the features of a single
application are included.
