1. This year I attended Aesthetica Film Festival for the first time. This year it focused on short films, but
I was able to watch music videos, animation and visit masterclasses. I also took part in an interview
that asked me questions based on my experience there.
I first went to see 6 drama short films. These films had a range of storylines and were in different
languages. They were very intense and covered serious topics but gave me a good idea where films
you could create on a smaller budget. I did learn that smaller budget films tend to have less location
sights and keep their story line in few locations. Overall, I enjoyed watching the drama series, even
though some were quite gruesome.
The next sections of films I watched were music videos. I wanted to go and see these because I am a
bug fan of music, and it has been a possibility to create a music video for my fmp. It did give me
inspiration in what I could create myself, however I felt like the type of music used wasn’t my style
which put me off the story line of the videos.
The next thing we looked at was what we thought was a lecture with a director on The Fourth Wall
and The Darkest Minds. Turns out we were mistaken, and it was a series of 7 different films that
included the fourth wall with extremely intense and disturbing story lines. I felt like watching 7 of
these one after the other was a nit much, especially after I found some stories more disturbing than
other. However, these films I felt like were shot the best and were overall my favourite.
Lastly to lighten up we watched the comedy series. This series was a good way to end our time at
Aesthetica. They were all light-hearted and interesting. The thing that I found is that the films that
used British humour was the funniest as it applied to me and as relatable, and everything else was
harder to find funny.
