2. Process
Firstly, I used the ellipse tool to create the
shape of my character. After this, I then
started to create new layers so I could then
start adding in some shading and facial
features. I used darker colors for the shading,
if I were to make the character look shiny
then I would add a lighter color or a
grey/white.
I used the ‘tween’ tool to duplicate all my
frames and make the character move. I also
made the legs of the character separate
layers so I could move them up and down as
if the character is walking. I made sure I
understood the different ways to make my
character move through the frame animation
as I didn’t really know how to use the
‘tweening tool’ before, so this is useful to
know for my production work.
3. Reflection
If I were to have a moving character in my
production work I would likely use the idea
of moving the characters legs to make it
look like the character is walking.
When creating this character I added some
shading to make the character look more
3D so when creating characters, objects, etc
I will make sure to add shading to it to make
the visuals of the game look better and
more appealing.
I used the Ellipse tool in my experiment which
was useful when creating the right shape for
my character. In my actual production I feel like
this tool and the other similar shaped tools
would be helpful when creating shapes as it
will same time and also look more
professional.
I purposely didn’t create a person for my
character in my experiments as I wanted to
see if I could create a character from my
own imagination incase I want to follow
this up when I do my production. I was
quite happy with my experiment however
if it came to production I may have tried to
upgrade my character to look more
creative. This may mean adding more
detail to the character like more colors,
clothes, shading, etc.
In my production experiment I didn’t get
the chance to create a moving background
to go with the character walking, which is
something I am going to do in my
production work. I need to make sure that
the background of my production work is
going to fit with the color theme of my
character and location.
4. Process
I decided that for my experiment I wanted to do a sort of adventure
game that would be fairly simple to create. My initial ideas for this game
were to make the game quite simple but I also wanted to add in special
sound effects such as background music and the ‘jump sound’. This
would be the ‘first level’ of the game but I haven’t completed it the
animation frame timeline at this point.
On this day, I managed to complete the
animation timeline for the movement of the
character and the ‘moving blocks’
The character basically has to cross the river
and get to the other side of the path, making
sure the health is collected in the center of
the river. The health needs to be collected
before trying to cross the other side because
the characters energy will not last that long.
Next time I focus on this experiment I will
add an energy bar at the bottom which
decreases as the character moves.
If I were to use this adventure idea for my actual production I would
make sure to add more detail and effects to my game. For example,
with this experiment I would have created a much more
artistic/interesting background so that the visuals would be more
pleasing to look at.
I also would have created a home screen that the players would
click to start the game and I would have added other levels to the
game so you can see how the game is supposed to get harder as
you play along.
Lastly I would have also added sections which would tell you
whether you lost or won the game.
5. Reflection
I like the idea of there being ‘moving blocks’ in my production as I feel like this would be good to use to
make the game more difficult as you reach the next level. Existing games that are similar to this kind of
idea would be games like ‘Doodle Jump’.
I also like the theme of being in a jungle or in a place of adventure as it does give the audience a feel for
facing challenges as you would being in a jungle environment. This is a theme I may stick to for my final
project.
If I were to use this adventure idea for my actual production I would make sure to add more detail and
effects to my game. For example, with this experiment I would have created a much more
artistic/interesting background so that the visuals would be more pleasing to look at.
I also would have created a home screen that the players would click to start the game and I would have
added other levels to the game so you can see how the game is supposed to get harder as you play
along.
Lastly I would have also added sections which would tell you whether you lost or won the game so it’s
clear for the players on what to do next.
6. Process
This is a screenshot of the website I
am using to create my own music and
jump sound, it’s called ‘BeepBox’. I am
able to create different sounds and
overlay these sounds with other
sounds to create some background
music for the game I created. To make
the jump sound I made the sound bar
reach up to make a high pitched sound
At first, I was just experimenting with the sounds and what I could
adjust to fit the song. I was happy with how the beat sounded on
this layer (yellow) and I also decided to add some more beats on the
red layer, which isn’t shown, and let the beats overlap to create a
simple but catchy background song for the game.
While using this website I started to play around with the tools on
the right hand side of the screen. I started to adjust the tempo so
some sections of the music were quitter and some were louder as
when you overlap music it can be a bit too much if they are all
loudly playing at the sane time. I made things like the jump sound a
bit quieter as the sound does go quite high pitch.
I also used tools on the right hand side such as the ‘type’ and ‘wave’
of the sound. Depending on which one you choose out of the
selection the pitch and length of the sound can be adjusted.

7. Reflection
For my actual production I am likely going to have sections
where the character jumps so therefor I need to make sure
I use beep box to create the right jump sound e.g. whether
the sound of the jump is high pitched, long, short, etc.
I made some different examples of jump and falling sounds
so I have an idea of the different sounds I could use for my
production.
After practicing through my
experiments I now have an
idea of how to use the tools
and settings on beat box so
I can follow up on these
experiments in my
production work when
creating my music and
sound effects. The type
‘chip’ is a sound effect that I
might stick with for my
experiment as the sound is
quite upbeat once you
create a rhythm or flow
with the sound.
For my production I am going to try and make
different flexible sounds so I can make a catchy
background song for my video game. This will
include putting the sounds on different keys,
above and below each other (like on the picture
above from my experiment). For my actual
production work I will add in other layers and
types of sounds to create a catchy tune.
