6. You need to start thinking of your
website as your virtual pad, your home
base, to connect with your dream clients.
Setup your website
I’m putting the final touches
on the website. How’s the
vector, Victor?
7. Setup your online social media presence
Your dream clients are gonna Google
you, so make sure when they find you
make sure it’s awesome.
In other words, don’t set up a gazillion
social media profiles if you don’t plan to
“show up”. Pick one or two to start.
The key to social media
success is to be helpful and
talk to peeps.
8. Figure out who you want to sell services to
You can try to sell to everyone, but
you’re not going to be everyone’s cup of
tea and that’s a good thing.
Focus on people that you REALLY want
to work with.
I want to work with a
designer who specializes in
rock star interiors.
9. Where are you going to find these people you want to work for?
We’re always on
Design*Sponge
looking for ideas for
our love nest.
10. Where you’re going to find these people you want to work for
You can’t start making money until you
show up and start the conversation with
your dream clients where they already are.
Joan, see if you can find a
designer in this blasted city.
There must be at least one.

Mood
Boards
Paint
Colors
Shopping
List
12. Figure out what services to sell to them
Duh... but really, a lot of interior designers
just put up a website and say “call me”.
Why would I call you? I want to be sure you
know how to solve my problem. Create a
service that solves their problem so their
more inclined to contact you.
Fred, call that designer for
me. I’m scared she’s gonna
be a man-eater type.
13. How are you going to deliver those services?
Interior
Design Express
14. Figure out the best way to deliver those services
You need to be prepared for when your
clients hire you. They want to know how
you’re going to deliver their design.
Figure it out so you can tell them up front
and quell their fears so their decision to buy
is a total no-brainer.
Do I download this or
are they gonna send me
something in the mail?
16. How much to sell your services for
Loaded question, huh? If you charge $5 or
$500, first decide to always charge a flat fee.
Then focus on the value and results you’re
bringing it and own it.
People will pay whatever you want to charge
if you can show them you’re the perfect
solution to their problem.
17. How can you start if you don’t know
what the eff you’re doing?
My petite cumquat that is how we learn.
Just start.
How you think we got to
the top?
We didn’t just wish for it.
