Ultra Personalized Products and Services in healthcare explained by Frens Pries, Maureen van Eijnatten, Allessandro Zomparellei and Bart Ahsmann - presented at CLICKNL DRIVE during the Dutch Design Week 2015
27. 3D printing: a paradigm shift in medicine
• Digital design, robotic fabrication and material technologies are bringing about a paradigm
shift in the medical world.
• We are moving away from serial production towards personalized production, from copies
towards iterations.
28. • Our objective is to explore, develop and produce new medical treatment methods
(human spare parts) using computational design, robotic fabrication and surgery
combined with novel material technologies and human stem cells.
• The 3D innovation lab operates in a cross disciplinary manner by interconnecting the
expertise of doctors, scientists and designers along with technological industries
34. 34
The role of design in medical research is changing
• Advanced imaging modalities
e.g. functional imaging or fiber tracking (MRI)
Optical 3D scanners
• Virtual modeling & design
Finite element analysis
Parametric design
• 3D printing (smart materials, scaffolds & stem cells)
• Big data & personalized medicine
35. Example: The helmet project
Every year, > 7000 people in NL are seriously injured in traffic accidents
