The Meaning of Parliamentary
Government
A system of

cabinet composed
Of members of the
legislature who are

The Definition of Parliamentary
Government
A Parliamentary system or Parliamentarian
democracy is a system of democratic
governance of a state where the executive
derives its democratic Legitimacy form its
ability to command the support of the
legislature, typically a Parliament, to which it
is accountable .
Generally, a modern parliament has three
functions:
Representing the Electorate
Making Laws
Overseeing the Government via Hearings
and Inquiries.
How Parliamentary Government
work ?
In a parliamentary system, lows
are made by majority vote of
the legislature & signed by the
head of state. who does not
have an effective veto power.
The head of government (prime
minister) is elected by the
legislature and can be removed
from office at any time through
a procedure called "vote of no
confidence." As a result,
government must always have
support of the legislative
majority.
How Parliamentary Government work in
Bangladesh ?
Bangladesh is a parliamentary democracy of 155
million citizens. Current Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina Wazed leads the Awami League (AL)
alliance. It was a 14-party coalition with a large
majority of parliamentary seats.
The president is constitutional figure head and
elected by the members of parliament for the
tenure of 5 years. This government has 3 organs:
 Legislature - Make the law
 Executive - Implement the law
 Judiciary - Interprets the law
Legislature & the Formation of Bangladesh
Parliament
The Constitution of the People's Republic of
Bangladesh gives the legislature the name
Jatiyo Shangsad(জাতীয় সংসদ) in Bengali and
House of the Nation in English. It is commonly
known as Parliament.
TotalMember:350.Male: 300, directly elected
by the adult people (from 300 territorial
constituencies that is one from each
constituency). Female:50, elected by MPs.
How Parliamentary Government work in
India?
Parliament is the supreme legislative body of
India. The Indian Parliament comprises of the
President and the two Houses - Rajya Sabha
(Council of States) and Lok Sabha (House of
the People). The President has the power to
summon and prorogue either House of
Parliament or to dissolve Lok Sabha.
The party which wins majority seats in the
elections of the Lower House forms the
government. The President appoints the leader
as the Prime Minister and the other ministers on
the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
How Parliamentary Government work in
USA ?
In the United States, the Congress is
the national parliament. The Congress
functions as the legislative branch of
the U.S. government. The President
functions as the executive branch, and
the courts (The Supreme Court), in
turn, function as the judicial branch.
The United States is a representative
democracy. This means that their
government is elected by the
citizens. citizens vote for their
government officials. These officials
represent the citizens' ideas and
concerns in government.
Merits of the Parliamentary
Government
Faster & quicker decision making
It requires less personal & less cost
It promotes good governance
Demerits of the Parliamentary
Government
 The Prime Minister is Loyal to his Party
 Uncertainty & Instability in Government
