a Cloud concepts are not a recent thing. In fact, it has been around for over 50 years!
at It has had many phases, including grid & utility computing, software and a service
(SaaS), and application service provision (ASP).
e However, it was in the 1950's with mainframe computing that began the gradual
evolution towards it.
e A number of users could access one main computer through numerous dumb
terminals that were only used to access the mainframe.
In 1969, the world launched the first working prototype of ARPANET.
I ARPANET is the network which the internet was based off.
ARPANET linked four different computers that were located in different areas of
The idea was to share information and resources with other users who studied in
similar fields - mainly scientific - by sending the info in "packets".
In the 1970's, the model of virtual machines (VM) is born.
With this software, it was possible to use multiple operating systems at the same
time in various locations.
Clients could now access information and files from one virtual location from their
own work network.
This was a significant moment for sharing information and communicating across
the country and the world.

As technology continues to evolve, telecommunication companies begin to offer
This means clients could get the same quality service at a fraction of the cost of
their other VMs.
In 1995, network diagrams began to include photos of a cloud.
In 1999, Google, Salesforce. com, and Netflix are launched.
6 In 2003, the Web 2.0 launches. Web 2.0 focuses on sites being multimedia rich,
and focuses on user generated blogging and content.
6 Facebook is born in 2004, and quickly overtakes sites like Myspace and Friendster,

- The private cloud is born in 2008, which is more secured version the the public
-I Browser based clouds are launched in 2009. This includes the launch of Google
Applications, which offered consumers different "apps" to download to their
smartphones allowing them to work from somewhere besides their computers.
6 Between 2009 & 2010, the open source cloud begins to make more movements.
6 It's followed by the hyper cloud in 2011. The hyper cloud combines the private and
public clouds, much to the delight of IT departments all over the world.
6 Apple follows by launching their cloud soon after. This allows people to use
wireless to store their content to one place automatically.
6 Google Drive is launched in 2012. It allows people to move their files from the
computer to a specific area, and have access to it at anytime.
6 In 2013, IMB acquires SoftLayer. As one of the largest global cloud providers,
Softlayer will provide a more detailed laaS solution.
6 2016 has shown the acceleration of cloud adoption. In the years to come, it will do
it's best to distinguish itself from the Internet.
