We supported ten folks in a demonstration project which looked at expanding their networks and their influence on their supports. This is some of what we learned, presented at Inclusion BC 2013.

know … even if you know the person well!

• But it does require a different skill set from the one we
traditionally hire for and reward…

8. It requires organizational
commitment
• Shifting from service provision to a
partnership approach

9. Look to natural supports as a first
response
• Ask “who might we enlist to help us with this?”

10. The language we use is important

12. Leadership is key!
• Building and sustaining networks requires facilitation
and strong leadership, someone who can rally people to a
brighter future.
