The document discusses feedback received from audiences on various media projects. It indicates that triangulating questionnaires, interviews, and social media provided both qualitative and quantitative data. Random sampling was also used. Feedback on a music video helped identify what the target audience liked and disliked, allowing improvements. Audience input also helped strengthen the design of promotional materials like a digipak and magazine advert. The document concludes that audience feedback is essential for creating effective media products tailored to target markets.
1. Media Evaluation:
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
282892588900Throughout the three topics I have used the same methods countless times as I feel that they provide the best data to me that I can use to get the products from them that I want which while link with what the target population want. These methods would be a triangulation of questionnaires and interviews as each provide me with a different amount of data that I can use together to provide the results as the questionnaires are simple tick boxes so provide me mainly with quantative data which is numbers or statistics although there are a few open questions. On the other hand however the interviews are unstructed so provide me with qualitative data which is meanings and feelings. Thus a mixture of these provides me with both types of data that I combine together. As well as these methods I also used the social networking site known as facebook to advertise and get feedback as it is used by and targeted at my target audience thus it gives me a better understanding.
I also used a type of random sampling as I felt that it was fairer and could provide me with truer results although I had a few short rules in order to keep the sample representative, reliable with the validity being high. Thus I felt by making up the rules it was easier to keep check of what I was doing and making each method similar so that I could compare and analyse them against one another getting the results to help make my products better focused on the target audience.
The rules are as follows:
- Asking twenty people (ten male & ten female)
- Only ask members of the target population
- Ask different people each time
From the music video results I was able to get a better knowledge at what worked and what didn’t due to the results that I got from the target audience including knowing exactly what they felt a music video should have included within it as well as what they didn’t like to see and what bored/stopped them from watching a video more than once. I feel that the feedback I received clearly showed and identified the target audience who were useful in helping my group and I produce an effective music video. After the initial video was created I then asked a similar group of people matching the target audience what they thought of it allowing me to change the things that they didn’t think were needed or what they didn’t like. Getting all of these results together I feel that we pulled out a final video to a happy audience because we included their input, people who listened to music, watched the videos and told us exactly what they liked or didn’t about them. Thus their honestly gave our small group more information to go on in order to make the video better for the public to watch.
The digipak however was a completely different idea as I already had an idea of what I wanted while watching the music video grow and that I wanted a large picture of the artist like in the many digipaks that I have seen and had owned. This was to link with the conventions of the music business as well as the music video itself by having the female portrayed on both technologies. Throughout the digipak creation I used both interviews and questionnaires to collect the data that I needed such as what the target audience felt were good colours to include and what they felt was useful to have on the album. This helped me select the font style that I felt looked effective to attract the target audience which was confirmed by the interviews that I gave out which is where I questioned twenty people on their views of the product, with the design added in too.
My second digipak design however was far more effective as the audience had much more of an input and I decided to listen to a couple of them that gave me ideas on what to do, such as changing the background image to one of colour and make the text brighter. This I took on board and altered the back from scratch however I have to say that the second option is by far better than the first and I felt that it looked more like the digipaks seen in shops like ones completed by famous stars such as Cheryl Cole with her album known as messy little raindrops.

The magazine advert was similar to the digipak in the fact that the initial design wasn’t that effective due to the lack of input that I received before producing it however once I spoke to a lot of people I got on the right track by reducing the brightness of the colour for more calm tones. Thus I made the advert turn into a blue type colour instead of having the red and yellow tones within the background which at the time I wasn’t sure about but once I completed the text colours, enhancing all of them I knew that it looked professional. I also liked having the star ratings from other magazines which was an idea given to me by one of my interviews thus I incorporated it into both advert designs.
All in all I feel that no matter what method people use or how good they are with technology, nothing would be effective without audience feedback. They help the developers create an effective product that people will buy otherwise the all production business would be hit and miss thus very hard to carry out of the audience didn’t create the feedback which is needed more and more by the countless artists as well as other media types. That said problems can arise like with my studies I found that it had a ethnic problem as there was no other ethnic groups to give the questionnaires too thus it lacked the insight of other minorities however when doing a large study I feel that this problem could be overcome quite easily by a large group or that of a company.
