Cloud computing - Basics and Beyond

  1. 1. Cloud Computing BASICS AND BEYOND
  2. 2. AGENDA WHY CLOUD? WHAT IS CLOUD? WHERE CLOUD?
  3. 3. WHAt IS CLOUD COMPUTING?
  4. 4. ” “ Cloud computing, often referred to as simply “the cloud,” is the delivery of on-demand computing resources—everything from applications to data centres—over the Internet on a pay-for-use basis. Elastic resources Pay for use Self Service
  5. 5. Cloud computing services
  6. 6. SERVICES CONTD…
  7. 7. WHAT IS SAAS?  Software as a service (or SaaS) is a way of delivering applications over the Internet—as a service. Instead of installing and maintaining software, you simply access it via the Internet, freeing yourself from complex software and hardware management.  SaaS applications are sometimes called Web-based software, on- demand software, or hosted software. Whatever the name, SaaS applications run on a SaaS provider’s servers. The provider manages access to the application, including security, availability, and performance.
  8. 8. PAAS  PaaS (Platform as a Service), as the name suggests, provides you computing platforms which typically includes operating system, programming language execution environment, database, web server etc.  PaaS is analogous to SaaS except that, rather than being software delivered over the web, it is a platform for the creation of software, delivered over the web.  Examples: AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Windows Azure, Heroku, Force.com, Google App Engine, Apache Stratos
  9. 9. PAAS Platform
  10. 10. IAAS  IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), as the name suggests, provides you the computing infrastructure, physical or (quite often) virtual machines and other resources like block and file-based storage, firewalls, load balancers, IP addresses, virtual local area networks etc.  Examples: Amazon Web Services, Rackspace, Google Compute Engine
