Stay Informed, Inspired, and Involved
Greetings from Youth Venture! We are responding to countless requests to share update
on how we are inspiring and supporting young people to lead their own civic-minded
organizations and businesses in the District of Columbia metro area. Youth Venture is
excited to share news about how young Changemakers are taking initiative and improving
their communities. Please feel free to share the newsletter with your networks, or let us
know if there's anyone you think should be receiving it! Thanks and remember to stay

Volunteer to be a Panelist for YV
Want to help our youth become changemakers? YV is looking for some adult volunteers
who would like to serve on our community panel in collaboration with Learn Serve
International. Panel will be held at the School Without Walls in Foggy Bottom on
Thursday, April 8th from 5:00-8:00 pm. If you are interested, please email Rachel at

12 New Local Venture Teams
The Fall 2009 Dream It. Do It. Challenge has come to an end and we welcomed 12 new
venture teams into the "Everyone a Changemaker" world. These young people have been
equipped with skills, tools, and seed funding of $1,000 to create change in DC and as
always YV will continue to support them as they grow their Ventures. Learn more about o

Inaugural YV Celebration and Venture Fair
Thanks for joining us at the Youth Venture Dream It. Do It. Challenge Celebration and
Venture Fair in January. The event took place at the beautifully restored North Hall of
Eastern Market and featured a showcase of our newest cohort of Changemakers joined by
seasoned Youth Venturers that have been leading change around the DC Metropolitan Are
The Venture Fair not only provided an opportunity for Venturers to highlight their
organizations, but also contributed to our efforts to continue building a global network of lik
minded young changemakers.
DC Area College Students Participate in First StartUp Scramble
Imagine 60+ college students from universities throughout greater DC coming together for
weekend to develop and launch social Ventures. The last weekend in January, YV hosted
the first StartUp Scramble in partnership with Young Impact. The StartUp Scramble is an
intensive weekend-long Venture incubator where teams of college students emerge with
sustainable Ventures aimed to address some of the most pressing social issues. The firs
StartUp Scramble was a huge success and launched 12 Venture teams.
Youth Venture Featured on Starbucks' Homepage
We partnered with GOOD Magazine to produce a 3-minute video that describes the work
Youth Venture does worldwide through the example of Alex Lek and his Venture team
Blockrockers in Seattle. These young people use the art of break-dancing to raise money
and awareness for Invisible Children in Uganda. The video has been featured on Starbuck
Homepage for the past six weeks and you can check out the impressive Venture story
here.
Save the Date Youth Venture Happy Hour
Mark your calendar for the Youth Venture Happy Hour on April 1st. We will be spending a
2. evening at Madame's Organ in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of DC. Join us to learn
more about Youth Venture and support our on-the-ground initiatives in DC! Details to follow
