Effective feedback is important in helping people develop.  Tell them how their performance or behavior impacted you…
When? How? Why? Specific Be Specific
General General Statement I think your attitude sucks… Don’t be general in         your feedback  statements.
Describe behaviors or  	actions and frame        in specifics… Your statement during the meeting at 1 made me feel belittled because... I thought you showed great interest when discussing the next quarter goals during our last meeting because… During that sales call I thought you showed great charisma by doing…
Judge actions, not individuals. Your feedback “You are abrasive and arrogant.” What they are thinking… “Who do you think you are calling me arrogant?!?” Where this feedback leads is    useless…
Effective feedback  is best done  sooner rather than later       & never goes on  too long.
The feedback sandwich only             serves to muddle communication.  Good! Bad! Good! Give them credit and give the effective feedback will all beef and no bun!
Avoid Traps or threats  disguised              as feedback.
Don’t psychoanalyze or give  advice unless asked. You don’t have a degree in psychology, so don’t pretend you are a psychologist!
Baaa Baaa Baaa Baaa Baaa Baaa Baaa Everyone’s saying baaad things about you Only speak for Yourself.
Questions to ask yourself before  giving feedback… ? Why did I notice this behavior & what does it say about me? What non-verbal feedback am I giving? What tone of voice would I like to be talked to when receiving feedback?
Angry Annoyed Betrayed Bored Calm Captivated Disturbed Ecstatic Electrified Fearful Foolish Frantic Frightened Glad Good Happy Helpful Helpless Honored Hurt Ignored Impresses Inspired Intimidated Isolated Jealous Kind Lonely Low Mad Miserable Nervous Outrages Overwhelmed Peaceful Petrified Pleased Pressured Proud Refreshed Rejected Relaxed Restless Rewarded Sad Satisfied Scared Shocked Skeptical Startled Sympathetic Tempted Tentative Terrified Terrible Threatened Tired  Troubled Uneasy Unsettled Vehement Vital Welcome Wonderful Worried  Word with     impact.
Don’t forget:      Feedback can be   positive                  as well. Your idea about that new flux capacitor is great!!!

  • 11. Judge actions, not individuals. Your feedback “You are abrasive and arrogant.” What they are thinking… “Who do you think you are calling me arrogant?!?” Where this feedback leads is useless…
  • 12. Effective feedback is best done sooner rather than later & never goes on too long.
  • 13. The feedback sandwich only serves to muddle communication. Good! Bad! Good! Give them credit and give the effective feedback will all beef and no bun!
