Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy
BY: XAVIER DEVLIN
Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy
Count Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy was born on February 21st,
1927 in Beauvais, Oise of northern France. Parents of Hubert
Givenchy were Lucien and Beatrice (nee Badin) Taffin de Givenchy.
Givenchy had only one brother named Jean Claude. Givenchy’s father
died in 1930. Givenchy’s family was an aristocratic heritage family.
Givenchy has no wife or kids. Givenchy has only one nephew named
James de Givenchy.
Givenchy's Education!
At the age of 17, Hubert Givenchy
moved to Paris to study art at the
Ecole National Superieure des
Beaux – Arts. Givenchy had an
apprenticeship with designer
Jacques Fath. He soon after
started working for famous
French couture houses such as
Lucien Lelong, Robert Piquet,
and Elsa Schiaparell which he
worked alongside Pierre Balmain
and Christian Dior.
Givenchy's Start!
One year after working for Elsa
Schiaparell, Givenchy opened up his
own designer house at the Plain
Monceau located in Paris. His first
collection was named after Paris’s most
famous model at the current time
Bettina Graziani. The collection
represented cheap fabrics for financial
reasons that still played a curious role
through their design. At that time,
Givenchy was known as the youngest
designer on the Paris fashion scene. In
the year of 1954, Givenchy presented
his first dress which later progressed
into the sack dress.
Givenchy in later
years!
 Givenchy sold his business as so did many
other famous designers to the Louis Vuitton
Moet Hennessey in the year of 1988. He then
designed for seven consecutive years and
retired soon after. His last collection was
presented in 1995. Givenchy was named to
the International Best Dressed List Hall of
Fame in the year 1970. Hubert Givenchy had
succeeded as head designer by John
Galliano, with Alexander McQueen and later
serving as head designer Riccardo Tisci.
Riccardo Tisci is still currently the head
designer of Givenchy.
Givenchy &
Audrey!
 Givenchy often designed for the famous Oscar
winning actress Audrey Hepburn. He then
became affiliated with her cinematic style. He
designed her numerous of fashions for her roles
in movies such as Funny Face in 1957 and
Breakfast At Tiffany’s in 1961. He partnered
with Edith Head in the preparations of these
fashions. Edith handled Audrey’s wardrobe for
the film Sabrina in 1954 alone but, each idea of
the fashions were inspired by Hubert Givenchy.
Givenchy has also designed for many more of
Audrey Hepburn’s films such as Love in the
Afternoon (1957), How to Steal a Million
(1966), Charade (1963), and Paris When It
Sizzles (1964). The same year as Audrey’s film
Love in the Afternoon, Givenchy released a
fragrance for his brand inspired by Hepburn
called “L’Interdit.”
A Few of Givenchy's Past Fashion
Victims!
 Hubert Givenchy also styled many other well – known
women which were in 1961 U. S. First Lady Jacqueline
Kennedy Onassis. He designed a personal gown for the
first lady which she wore to an important visit to the
Palace of Versailles. Other very important women who
were dressed by Givenchy were Princess Grace of
Monaco, Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor; and
Socialite Babe Paley. As of now, in the year 2015, the
new face of Givenchy
Recent Faces of
Givenchy!
. As of now, in the year
2015, the new face of
Givenchy autumn/winter is
the fashion icon Donatella
Versace And For Men Victor
Cruz. Well know actress
Julia Roberts was the face
of Givenchy’s
spring/summer 2015
campaign.
Givenchy's Recent Victims!  Many artist, rappers, models, and
actors/actresses wear and rock many of
Givenchy’s pieces but only a few are known
for wearing his designs. This explains why
his target market is catered toward high
fashion and higher class consumers because
of its luxury and legacy. Two of the most
famously controversial pop stars that you can
always catch wearing anything Givenchy are
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Rihanna Fenty.
Rihanna in Givenchy!
The talented and always edgy artist Rihanna
had an unforgettable wardrobe line up for her
Diamonds Tour. The wardrobe was designed by
Designers such as Raf Simons of Christian
Dior, Christian Louboutin, and of course
Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy.
Beyoncé in
Givenchy!
Beyoncé has also had her
fashion moments with Givenchy
as well for example, her
beautiful personally made sheer
gown which she wore at the New
York Met Gala 2015. Beyoncé
has worn Givenchy gowns to the
gala before but this year’s gown
topped all the rest. Riccardo
Tisci from Givenchy custom
made the skin – colored gown
which was showered with multi
colored crystals and stones
which covered the artists in all
the right places. The gown gave
the illusion that Beyoncé had on
nothing but crystals. BEYONCE
Nicki & Kanye
in GIVENCHY!
Other artists such as
Nicki Minaj and
Kanye West both wear
and love the Givenchy
label and they have
their tour wardrobes
& closets to prove it.
