3. Givenchy's Education!
At the age of 17, Hubert Givenchy
moved to Paris to study art at the
Ecole National Superieure des
Beaux – Arts. Givenchy had an
apprenticeship with designer
Jacques Fath. He soon after
started working for famous
French couture houses such as
Lucien Lelong, Robert Piquet,
and Elsa Schiaparell which he
worked alongside Pierre Balmain
and Christian Dior.
4. Givenchy's Start!
One year after working for Elsa
Schiaparell, Givenchy opened up his
own designer house at the Plain
Monceau located in Paris. His first
collection was named after Paris’s most
famous model at the current time
Bettina Graziani. The collection
represented cheap fabrics for financial
reasons that still played a curious role
through their design. At that time,
Givenchy was known as the youngest
designer on the Paris fashion scene. In
the year of 1954, Givenchy presented
his first dress which later progressed
into the sack dress.
5. Givenchy in later
years!
Givenchy sold his business as so did many
other famous designers to the Louis Vuitton
Moet Hennessey in the year of 1988. He then
designed for seven consecutive years and
retired soon after. His last collection was
presented in 1995. Givenchy was named to
the International Best Dressed List Hall of
Fame in the year 1970. Hubert Givenchy had

Galliano, with Alexander McQueen and later
serving as head designer Riccardo Tisci.

designer of Givenchy.

with Edith Head in the preparations of these
fashions. Edith handled Audrey’s wardrobe for
the film Sabrina in 1954 alone but, each idea of
the fashions were inspired by Hubert Givenchy.
Givenchy has also designed for many more of
