3. Initial Focus
• 37.3M Americans have diabetes1
• 1 in 4 healthcare dollars5 in the US is spent on diabetes treatment
• 90% of diabetes diagnoses could have been prevented by
lifestyle changes7
• Even though people know they should eat healthier and exercise, they do
not for multiple possible reasons:
• They have tried and failed to lose weight in the past
• They feel intimidated to start going to the gym because they don't look the
part
• They lack the resources to make healthier choices
4. Opportunity
• Diabetes is one of the most widespread preventable illnesses so we will initially
focus on this
• Kaiser Permanente has 12.7M subscribers2, of whom 1.45M have diabetes
• 38% of American adults are prediabetic1
• Kaiser Permanente is currently spending up to $9.1B annually treating diabetes
alone. This could increase to $21B over the next 5 years if prediabetes
progression is not slowed
Preventing the progression of diabetes in this population should be our #1 focus
6. Cost Analysis & ROI
• Cost Analysis:
9 months of development – $360K
2 trainers - $100K
2 nutritionists - $100K
5 support staff - $250K
Total Investment: $810K
• Preventing just 10% our 4.8M prediabetic subscribers from becoming diabetic
could save us $1.2B per year in the future
