BITS-Pilani wins IIMK's White Knight title

KOCHI: Teevra Cycles of BITS Pilani has won the title of White Knight, in the 2011 edition of the annual management festival of
IIM Kozhikode, Backwaters, which concluded the other day. The team battled it out for the top position from among 182 B-plan
entries from more than 60 B-schools and around 20 start-ups of the country.
The jury consisted of eminent venture capitalists including Kapil Khandelwal, head of EquNev Capital, Ashpi Gupta of Mumbai
Angels and Kris Nair of Incucapital.
White Knight is the flagship B-plan competition of IIM Kozhikode and is held as a part of its annual management festival
Backwaters. This year, the theme was 'People Planet Profit: The Triple Bottom Line.'
The best B-plan in the People category went to Inky, a startup of Ashutosh Vikram from NITIE, Mumbai. In the Planet category, the
title went to Samriddhi, a B-plan by Anurag Ranjan, Rohit Mittal of IIFT, Delhi and Charu Dwivedi of BARC, Mumbai. In the Profit
category, Teevra Cycles, a B-plan of Abhinav Mahajan, Ankit Khandelwal and Saurabh Ahuja of BITS Pilani and Phyzok, a start up
of Sushil Singh, Viknesh and Nithya N won the prize jointly.
All the four teams were awarded with prize money of Rs 25,000 each. Teevra Cycles was adjudged the best among all and
bagged the White Knight title. In his address, Kapil Khandelwal stressed the importance of entrepreneurship among youth. As
employment opportunities are shrinking further, the sense of entrepreneurship alone can sustain the burgeoning population, he
said.
Kris Nair said that he was impressed by the theme of Backwaters and pointed out that the businesses of the future need to take
care of both society and environment in order to be sustainable and successful. Ashpi Gupta motivated the participants to think big
and follow their ideas with perseverance, persistence and passion, which she said were the keys to success.
Damodar Avanoor of TiE Kerala announced the details of the TiE All-Asia Business Plan competition and said that a few top
eligible teams of White Knight would be invited to compete for an entry into the chapter round that will be held in Ernakulam in
December.
