• Dąbrowa Górnicza is the largest city of the province and the 9th
largest in Poland in terms of territory, with total area of 188
square kilometers.
• The city lies among the hills, at 258 to 390 meters above sea
level. Dąbrowa Górnicza borders Będzin County, Zawiercie County,
Olkusz County and the city of Sosnowiec. At the same time it
borders the cities and towns of Sosnowiec, Będzin, Siewierz and
Sławków.

coal-mining center, and its name was supplemented by the
adjective Górnicza (which refers to mining) in 1919, to

• The first mention of Dąbrowa can be found
in the documents of the Będzin parish -
in 1726 the oldest known baptism of a
Dąbrowa inhabitant took place there.
Around 1785, in today's Haller Park,
deposits of hard coal were discovered, in
1796, the first open-pit hard coal mine
"Reden" was established.
• In 1815, Dąbrowa was incorporated into
the Congress Kingdom.

• On the initiative of Stanisław Staszic,
a number of investments were made in the
area of Dąbrowa. Among other things, in
1818, the construction of a mining
estate next to the still operating
"Reden" mine began. The village was
slowly transforming into a large
workers' estate, later called Dąbrowa
Górnicza.

• Its further development took place thanks to the
construction of Huta Bankowa in 1839. Its location in
the center of today's city determined the urban layout
for the next decades.
• At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Dąbrowa
was the largest concentration of technical
intelligentsia in Zagłębie; its forge was Sztygarka
Mining School. The history of this school is a
beautiful page in the history of Polish mining and
revolutionary struggles. Sztygarka also published an
important scientific journal, Przegląd Górniczo-
Hutniczy.

• . In 1916, the village of Dąbrowa was raised to
the rank of a town. Its first president was Dr.
Adam Piwowar.
• The construction of Huta Katowice, the largest
metallurgical plant in the country and one of the
largest in Europe, had a great impact on the
development of the city in 1972-1976 - currently
ArcelorMittal Poland S.A.
• The history of Dąbrowa mining ended in 1995, when
the last ton of coal was extracted from the
"Paryż" mine. The city has begun building a new

20. Jimi Hendrix bench
• The bench is located in the city center near the
Monument to the Heroes of the Red Banners and the
Zagłębie Palace of Culture.
• During the change of the system, a protest arose and the
idea was born to dedicate the monument to someone who is
certainly not associated with the overthrown system. And
so there was a dedication: "TO JIMIE HENDRIX, KURT
COBAIN. MAKE LOVE NOT WAR IS OVER. TO ALL WHO LOVE

25. Błędów Desert
• is an area of sands between Błędów (part of Dąbrowa Górnicza in Upper Silesian
Metropolitan Union) and the villages of Chechło and Klucze in Poland. The area
lies mainly on the Silesian Highlands in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.
• The desert was used as a military proving ground from the beginning of the 20th
century. During the Second World War, the German Afrika Korps used the area to
train soldiers and to test equipment before deployment in Africa.[3] Military
exercises continue in the area, including an airborne assault operation involving
US, Canadian, and Polish forces in 2014

viewpoint at the end of Górna street in

beautiful view of the desert and the

downhill following a yellow trail. After
about 15-minute hike, you will reach the
desert itself.
