2. Introduction
Palampur, tea producing and with jaw-dropping landscapes to see, is said to be a marvel
amongst volunteers and travellers alike. But what exactly is it that makes Palampur such a
volunteer’s delight? I will talk you through the several aspects that make it just that,
below.
3. Palampur-'Tea Capital of Northwest India'
Tea, the love and addiction of many, is
abundant in what is known as the 'Tea Capital
of Northwest India', this is mainly due to the
strikingly beautiful aromatic and plentiful tea
gardens which were introduced to this region by
Dr. Jameson, Superintendent of Botanical
Gardens, in the mid 19th century. Kangra tea,
named after the valley where Palampur is
situated in, is popular and well loved
internationally.
4. Scenic Beauty in the midst of
Himalayas
Another reason for the charm that is
Palampur is its truly stunning natural beauty.
Overlooked by the magnificent snow capped
Dhauladhar mountains, and bursting with
lush greenery and scenic streams which
Palampur is named after (“Pulum” referring
to the great amount of water), it is no
wonder that we strongly recommend this
haven of dense forestry, freshwater lakes, and
verdant hills to all manners of volunteers.
5. Hub of Historical Monuments
Palampur has copious amounts of
breathtaking sites to take in and visit. From
the Kangra and Kamlah Garh forts, to
the Sultanpur palace, Palampur is home to
some of the most beautiful historical sites in
India. There also a number of dazzling and
tranquil temples to visit in Palampur , these
include the Chamunda Devi Temple, Baijnath
Temple, Devi Latti Jakhni, and plenty more.
History and culture are rife in these parts,
and you will certainly not want to miss these
when volunteering in Palampur.
6. Festivals Delight
Festivals are the epitome of India, and in
Palampur it is no different. There are a
few important festivals in Palampur: Sair,
a local festival of the district which
celebrates the rain season and black
month (on this day the Sair deity is
worshiped, food is offered, and children
play games), Lohri and Maghi, this
festival celebrated in mid January is
accompanied by blazing bonfires, fanciful
folk songs, and dramatic dancing! and
finally Palampur Holi Fair which is
probably the most famous. During this
period a huge fair is held, where many
singers visit, enlightening activities are
presented, and spectacular
representations of the gods are created.
You would not like to leave without
having experienced at least one!
7. Indulge in Adventure Activities
Trekking and Paragliding are a
percentage of the prevalent
escapade action choices in
Palampur. Actually, Palampur has
been named as the best paragliding
site on the planet. For trekking, the
kangra area is an unquestionable
requirement look at spot.
8. Varied Volunteering Opportunities
At Volunteering India we offer a variety of
opportunities in this volunteer’s delight. You
may choose to take up a volunteer ship
with children in Palampur, and this is especially
rewarding if you love and have a soft spot for
children: from helping with teaching programs,
to showing affection and aiding homeless or
mentally disabled children, these particular
projects are perfectly suited to your aims and
passions. Or if you are looking for something a
little different you may embark on a summer
volunteer or two week special program, where
you will volunteer in a couple of different
organizations and get the opportunity to go
extreme sightseeing! So what are you waiting
for? Volunteers can choose a program of their
choice and spend some quality time in this
wonderful green hill station!
