This presentation is about reduction of exhaust emission by employing powerful magnets in an automobile engine. It also has the added advantage of reducing fuel consumption. The fuel line is retrofitted with a magnetic device before the fuel injector. The novelty of present mechanical design is that it is simple and weightless. The objective of this work was to manufacture an economic ATV with a magnetic device, to study the effect that magnetic field has on exhaust gas emission and combustion. Magnetic field is focused on the fuel line by attaching a magnetic device on it. The hydrocarbon cluster gets dispersed into smaller particles due to the applied magnetic field and thus improves the efficiency of combustion. This maximizes combustion and reduces unburnt hydrocarbon present in the emission.
Effect of magnetic field in reducing emission and increasing efficiency in an all terrain vehicle
1. Effect of magnetic field in reducing emission and
increasing efficiency in an all terrain vehicle
2.
3. • Objective:
-Increase the efficiency of the engine by introducing a magnetic field in the fuel
line.
-Decrease emission of harmful by-products by ensuring complete combustion
thereby reducing vehicular pollution.
-To build a vehicle capable of traversing a large number of terrains.
• Project Requisites: Polaris engine, electromagnet, gas ioniser, battery, body of
the vehicle
• Project duration and cost: 7months, approx. Rs.15,24,000
4. • Motivation:
-One of the major causes for air pollution is the continuous release of
emissions from vehicles.
-Harmful gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxides
and greenhouse gases are released as by products.
-Carbon monoxide, when inhaled blocks oxygen from the brain, heart,
and other vital organs.
-Sulphur dioxide can react in the atmosphere to form fine particles and
poses the largest health risk to young children and asthmatics.
-Nitrogen oxides (NOx) cause lung irritation and weaken the body's
defences against respiratory infections such as pneumonia and influenza.
-Moreover Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) are both
dangerous carcinogenic substances and their concentrations have reached
alarming proportions in most Indian cities.
8. • Challenges:
-Lack of proper combustion or incomplete combustion.
-This is the main reason for decreased efficiency of the engine.
-Incomplete combustion is also what leads to release of emissions.
9. • Project Plan:
• We introduce permanent magnets or other magnetic sources in the fuel line,
between the carburettor and the engine.
• Hydrogen is the major constituent of hydrocarbon fuels.
• Hydrogen occurs in two isomeric forms: ortho and para
10. • The ortho form is more suitable for maximum complete combustion than
para.
11. • It is possible for para hydrogen to be converted into its ortho state by the
application of strong magnetic fields.
• This is provided by the magnetic source in the fuel line.
• The magnetic treatment also dispenses the molecules into tiny particles and
makes the fuel less viscous.
• This ensures that fuel actively interlocks with oxygen during mixing
producing a more complete burn in combustion chamber.
12.
13. • Since it gives a more complete combustion when the engine operates, it
saves more fuel and thereby increases its efficiency .
14. • As complete combustion takes place now, it also decreases the emission from
the engine.
15. • There is significant increase in brake thermal efficiency due to the reduction
in fuel consumption and also reduction in the exhaust emission.
