Chr Hansen Holding A/S is a Denmark-based bioscience company that develops natural ingredient
solutions for the food, nutritional, pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. The Company’s
business is divided into three divisions, such as:
• Cultures & Enzymes
• Health & Nutrition
• Natural Colours
The Cultures & Enzymes division develops and produces cultures, enzymes and probiotics for the
food industry in general and the dairy industry in particular. The Health & Nutrition division
develops, produces and sells products for the dietary supplement, infant formula and animal feed
industries.
The Natural Colours division develops and supplies natural colour solutions to the food and
beverage industry, in particular the confectionery, ice cream, dairy and fruit preparation segments.
The Company was founded in 1874 and now operates in more than 30 countries in Europe, North
and South America, as well as Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, with 2.500 employees
worldwide.
Cultures and Enzymes division offers a strong portfolio with a wide selection of dairy enzymes for
milk coagulation, lactose degradation and bio protection, as well as enzymes targeting yield,
flavour enhancement and increased whey value.
One of the strongest offerings includes a product called HA-LACTASE™ that is used to treat dairy
produce, where afterwards the treated products may be consumed by people suffering from
lactose intolerance. Ha-Lactase™ products are Kosher, Halal and Vegetarian certified.
An additional advantage of HA-LACTASE™ is that it increases sweetness without the addition of
sugar or artificial sweeteners. The reduced lactose content and increased sweetness help dairies
produce healthier milk-based products for a wider consumer base worldwide.
In 2013, Chr Hansen achieved revenue sales of $1.0bn and visiongain predicts these will exhibit a
CAGR of 6.7% over 2014-2024. In 2019, the sales are expected to be worth $1.6bn and there will
be a CAGR of 7.8% from 2014-2019. There will then be a CAGR of 5.6% from 2019-2024 and this
will culminate in value sales of $2.1bn in 2024. The forecasts are mainly supported by company’s
strong market positions in the fields of product innovation and applications, production processes,
long-term customer relationships and intellectual property.

The Natural Colours division develops and supplies natural colour solutions to the food and beverage industry, in particular the confectionery, ice cream, dairy and fruit preparation segments.
