2. History of the Department of Cultural
Studies and Journalism
Department of Cultural Studies was established in Vyatka State University
in 2002. The founder and first head of the department was Sergei Lipin,
PhD, Professor, Honored Employee of Higher Education of Russia.
Since 2007, the head of the department is Elvira Viktorovna Gmyzina, PhD
Cultural Studies, Associate Professor. There are 1 Doctor of Science, 1
professor, 10 PhD’s and Associate Professors. Percentage of staff with
academic degree is 88%.
Teachers of the department do lecturing in cultural disciplines (cultural
studies, history, world and national culture), and conduct classes in rhetoric,
Russian language and culture of speech, culture of business communication
in all faculties of the University.
Since 2003, the department prepare specialists in "Cultural Studies", since
2011 it also prepares specialists in "Journalism". Due to the expansion of
activities in 2011 the department was renamed in the Department of Cultural
Studies and Journalism.

Each year, there are intercollegiate scientific conferences for students
and postgraduate students in the department, the results of which are

11. A person as an object and a subject of media culture:
a global media environment and its effect on society
Media Culture - a special type of information society culture, the study of which
requires an interdisciplinary cognitive approach based on scientific principles of
cultural studies, semiotics, journalism, mass communication theory, management.
The object of the study is a person, his nature, social status, ideological positions,
spiritual and moral character, intellectual development prospects.

12. Cultural Landscape of Vyatka in the meta
geographical dimension
This project is devoted to the imaginative geography, also known as the geography
of the imagination. This area of the modern humanities is not fully studied. The
perception of space and features of local mythology is to being studied in the
context of the cultural history of the Vyatka region . The project is funded by
the grant of the President of the Russian Federation for young scientists and
scientific schools support.

environment of Vyatka
The Volgo-Vyatsky region is home to people with a rich spiritual and material heritage.
The worldview reflection in folk art, book culture, iconography and architecture.
The object of the study is peculiarities of interaction and the formation of cultural
space in the context of the multi-ethnic and multi-faith environment of the region.

14. Modern world language landscape
In recent years, world language landscape has become one of the most topical issues of linguistics. It
includes the representation of reality, as reflected in the language of signs and meanings and also
the results of the objective world reflection by an ordinary or artistic mind of a language
community. Language world landscape is created by the nominative, functional and imaginative
means of a language. They are the main object of study in this research.

Formation of speech competency of a specialist is one of the objectives of higher education.
This requires continuous improvement of teaching methods and rhetorical language

development, which the modern Russian society will have to go through.

As part of an interdisciplinary study, many different schools achievements are verified:

and psychoacoustics and cognitive science, on the other.
