This document describes CADUS' multi-modal carpooling and route planning solution called MonTrajet. MonTrajet allows users to offer or request rides, and plan intermodal trips combining options like driving, biking, walking and public transit. It analyzes commuting patterns, provides feedback to transit organizations, and consolidates all transportation options in one platform. The solution was developed using technologies like Django, OpenLayers, Google Maps and pgRouting, and it launched in beta in August 2014. CADUS is open to sharing the platform with other interested institutions.
3. CADUS
CADUS' mission is to encourage active transit and
multiple occupant alternatives to single occupant
transit, from a sustainable development
perspective, while considering the collective well-being
of our region.
6. Problematics
● Cars are not better than other means of
transport;
● 10 452,40 $/year for a car;
● In cities, bicycle and bus trips are often
faster than finding a parking spot;
● In rural areas, active transit and multiple
occupant transit is possible, but requires
an effort.
7. Current solutions
● Google Transit when available
● Carpool services and websites
● Smart phones, GPS
● Uber?
8. Our solution
● Help people to get around more easily.
● Analyse people commute.
● Provide feedback to transit generating
transit organisations.
● Regroup all transport options under a
same umbrella.
20. Administration
● Statistics on the offers, rides and users
● Search for users
● Search for origin and destination
● Export to CSV
21. Administration
● The platform can be used as a repartition
tool.
● Staff users can create and propose
matches between two users by email to
stimulate traffic and activity on
montrajet.ca.
23. Technologies: Application
● Django framework for user, data and form
management.
● Django CMS for static pages.
● Map with OpenLayers 3
● Google Maps
24. Technologies: Routing
● Google Maps API to geocode
● Google Maps for unimodal routing (car,
walking, biking and public transit when
available)
● Custom routing engine for intermodal trip
25. Technologies: Intermodality
● pgRouting algorithm
● OSM data
● Build a graph for each potential offers with
all POI and other possibilities.
● Precalculate as much information as
possible.
● Good performance (0.3s / request)
26. Technologies: Result ordering
● Filter out offers based on users criteria.
● Weigh all results based of matching
criteria to determine their order.
● Always try to give results to the user.
● Make sure to inform the user if their
results are not really matching their
request.
27. OSM
● A lot of work done to clean up the data in
rural area.
● Addition of walking and biking lanes.
● More than 600 modifications over the
summer.
● Changes also published to Google Maps
Maker
29. Current state
● Launch Beta on August 21st 2014
● At the same time as the first day of school
● Next version (Autumn 2014):
– Saguenay municipal public transit
integration (GTFS)
– Finish responsive
– Support multiple email address
– SMS communication
30. Futur
● Possibility of loading any GTFS
● Events as well as organisations
● Translation
