On the 27th of March 2004, when I was 25 years old I was involved in a severe care accident in Johannesburg. My fiancé and I were driving back from dinner in Melville when a car overtook us on the left and swirved into our lane which caused us to lose control on a sharp bend, spin across the road uncontrollably and finally smash into a concrete wall.
This was a citi golf. Although I was wearing my seatbelt, I was leaning down at the time we started spinning. I had extensive injuries, which included major internal bleeding and complex facial fractures. Paramedics rescusitated me on the side of the road before taking me through to the Charlotte Maxeke hospital where I stayed for a month recovering on life-support. I don’t remember the accident, all I recalled was waking up in a hospital bed, staring at a white ceiling, not bein able to move, hearing the sound of machines keeping me alive and nurses and doctors talking about my next surgery.
So to explain #hcsmSA in a little further detail, as mentioned hcsm represents healthcare social media and the SA is our geographic chapter South Africa.
