Executive Summary
Requirements
A new business that engineers various software solutions for multiple customers is looking for
end-to-end IT design and support. The network needs to support today’s technology yet be
flexible enough to provide expansion in the future. The network should support collaboration
between employees as well as customers both on site and connected remotely. The network
should be designed to provide 99.999% uptime.
Network Infrastructure
The network is designed to support a multi platform facility. We have servers installed with the
latest server operating systems (OS) such as Mac OSx Lion Server, Windows 2008 RT, and Ubuntu
systems to satisfy requirements. We have built our network infrastructure to be redundant where
it matters. This redundancy will prevent downtime and give some peace of mind to the IT
department if there is something wrong because they will still have an operational server.
OSX Lion Server
We use Mac OSX Server’s File Sharing for our main application to share important work
documents with all employees both on and off-site. We use Time Machine to back up all the Mac
workstations and is an effortless recovery solution. The current storage unit for the network
allows for automatic Time Machine back up and with this configuration, the end user can be
worry free knowing that his/her work will always be there.
Windows 2008 RT Server
Windows server RT will provide an important part of the network. With features such as Group
Policy and Active Directory, we can assign policy to individual employees. So no matter what
workstation they sign into on the network, they will have the same configuration as there
assigned workstation. This allows the customer to use one username and password across the
entire network. Windows will use the Backup and Restore feature to keep an updated recovery
point. This will automatically back up the files on the storage on the network.

Ubuntu System
The Ubuntu Server (tool server) will host programs such as Polyspace and MKS Integrity. This
allows the developer to do various software developing tasks without having the software on his
computer. Since this server is Linux based, we can also manage Linux based workstations.
iCloud
This Feature of the network will allow costumers to be synced across their devices. We do not
recommend storing high security information into the cloud, even though the files you send are
encrypted both to and from the cloud. Customers will have there contacts, E-mail, documents
and calendar on any device they securely log into. This is a great feature to have when the
customer will be very mobile.
VMware
With this cloud based feature integrated into the network, the developers of your company will
be extremely satisfied. This allows a developer to sit at his/her desk and asks the server to build
them a test environment. This system will then build the environment, push it to the customer,
and he/she will then have a complete operational test environment to test code on. After the
customer is finished testing, the system will then destroy the environment.
VTrack
The “Promise” VTrack is equipped with twenty-four 2TB SATA drives and comes with dual
active controllers, each with four 8G ports with 4GB cache memory in a 4U form factor chassis.
This memory also supports RAID. We recommend buying two storage systems to assure your
files will always be there.
Kace
This Software will cut IT’s work load in half. These are just a few of Kace’s features: Inventory,
software distribution, patch management, help desk features, and power management. With this
tool, your IT department will be able to have fewer interruptions to customer workstations
because they will be able to do it all right from their desk.

Exchange Server
We decided to host our network messaging service with an Exchange Server from Microsoft. This
serves multiple platforms and even more mobile platforms. Also, it is equipped with a multi-
layered anti-spam filtering system, which gives you a leg up on security. Customers will be able
to exchange mail, contacts and calendar information throughout the network.
