General Comments
I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone.
THANK YOU :) You were great! :)
The amount of effort in forms of both availability and resources that Professor Roberts has put forth is
astounding. She took the time to asses what each students learning needs were, and adapted to assist all of us.
I just can't believe the amount of time and resources she has dedicated to this class. In addition, the way she
has taught the class made a complex subject really comprehensive.
I feel that the biggest issue with this course is there is a lack of ability to communicate between the students and
the professor. Often students would ask questions, and the answer would not address the question due to a lack
of understanding of what was being asked. Other than this issue, the course was clearly the best effort to make a
difficult subject approachable.

I think the slides and hypos during class were very helpful. I wish there were more explanatory slides actually. I
also think that it was great that she recorded the classes and review sessions. I plan on using them to help study
for finals. I liked the homework and going over it in class every week. I wish she posted an answer key to the
problems on blackboard. I found the statutory worksheets moderately helpful but just reading the code in class
word for word was not helpful for me at all. I did like that the class was split into two sections- partnership and
corporate. I think the clicker quizzes were problematic just because the technology was not working most of the
time. I wish there were more sample problems and old exams available. I think I would have liked an overview of
how everything fit together more. The homework problems and in class problems were very helpful in solving
specific problems but I would have liked an overview of how everything fit together.
-The slides were good and the hypos were good but it would be helpful to have clear answers on the slides for
study materials when you go back and look at the hypos - answers to problems could be presented more clearly
and in a very clear step by step fashion in terms of whiteboard problems and slides - the clicker quizzes are not
helpful as there is not enough time to really dive into a problem and that fact that a majority of students get it
right does not mean the material is mastered; they do not allow ample time for explaining the problem and
working through it - the take home assignments were good checkouts as to how you are doing in the class and
were very relevant -weekly homework was the best part of the class; we did go over the problems together but
more step by step breakdown and more time spent on the process would have been more helpful -always was
available during office hours which was great -the review session seemed to be treated as an additional class
meeting period which goes beyond the time expectation of the course - the Logic book was the most helpful
-there should be another book for corporate tax specifically assigned to us that is more similar to Logic rather
than the casebook
Professor Roberts is a great teacher. She's dedicated and invested. She may sometimes be misunderstood,
however, because she has expectations of students that sometimes we cannot meet. Nevertheless, I'd rather
have a professor that has expectations of her students than a professor who does not care. I think with a couple
more years of experience, she will become an amazing tax professor that every student will appreciate taking. I
think the subject matter is extremely difficult to learn and teach. And it wears out the patience of both professor
and student...it just takes time. But I've learned a lot, and I've enjoyed the class overall. This is a class where you
really have to be willing to learn in a way that you may not be used to. And Professor Roberts has often showed
extreme patience. Although Professor Roberts is not perfect (like the rest of us), I think she is a great professor
overall.
Overall, I am glad I took this class. the positives: professor Roberts is very open/responsive to student questions,
and provides a ton of great material. the supplements and course books are great. her oral explanations are very
good. the negatives: Professor Roberts on a few occasions has become frustrated with our class, and lashed out
a little bit. her written explanations could be more organized.

Would you recommend this class to a friend?
Yes. She was always available for us whenever we had questions. We had a review session every week and I
really appreciated for her extra work and time for us. I feel like this course should be at least 5- 6 units given the
work we had to do. All in all, I learned a lot thanks to her despite inherent challenges with regard to the subject
matter. Thank you Tracey!
Yes. Professor Roberts has an integrative approach to each student's individual learning style. She will make
herself available to meet with you if you are not grasping a concept, and tries to help everyone succeed.
Yes. Didn't learn much in the class. Simply read the code in class, and when we did problems, it was confusing.
Professor is willing to help, but her answers are often confusing.
Yes. A lot of times we were overwhelmed with material, and it created a lot of confusion. In working through
problems with the class, it would be best when starting on a new problem, to erase all of the previous problems
numbers, and start from scratch. Running through the problem and changing the numbers as we went along
created confusion and made it hard to follow. I was grateful for you availability and out of class time. WS were
very helpful. Logic of Subchapter 3 was helpful. More old exams and sample problems would be great. My main
complaint is the way we work through the problems, I often found that part (a) of whatever problem we worked
through was easy to follow, but parts b-d were very difficult to follow ( and that is usually were the intracacies lie)
because the problems were not erased all the way and clearly laid out.
Yes. Professor Roberts has provided an enormous amount of resources for students to aid in their learning. The
statutory worksheets each week really help in understanding the code. In addition, the application of the code to
the weekly problems was fundamental in my learning. She is very flexible in her office hours and provides weekly
review sessions. She is the most available and supportive professor I have ever had.
Yes. If you want to learn about the taxation of corporations and partnerships, this is literally the only course. So
that is that.
Yes. null

Yes. The course builds upon skills learned in FIT and is vital to a career within tax and the corporate world. The
course is fast paced and there is a lot of material but you learn a lot and it is definitely a class to take.
Yes. I feel like I learned a lot in this class - a statement that I cannot say for all classes.
Yes. The casebook by Schwartz and Lathrope is horrible, and I hope it is removed from the syllabus (this is not
reflective on the professor's teaching style). The casebook, in general, has limited examples and no clarity on the
concepts. For the corporate section, I think it would be better to just use the Black Letter Law book and code
book (and possibly some supplement material on the cases). Other than that, I enjoyed using the other books in
the class. The clicker quizzes are useful but the clickers are pretty problematic, especially the system used for
the clickers. I wouldn't mind if we raised our hands in class for the answer choices. Review sessions (not the
Thursday ones, but the midterm/take-home ones) are extremely helpful. I really liked that about the class
because some of the concepts are not as clear and the review sessions use practice problems to understand the
concepts. The Thursday review sessions are a bit difficult to make because it conflicts with other classes. But
other than that, the Monday review sessions were extremely helpful. I really enjoyed the hypos, homework, and
problems (question and answers) on Blackboard because they helped with understanding the concepts. The
statutory worksheets were not as helpful because it just provided a cursory look at the law. If the codes and the
problems could be meshed together in the homework, that might be more helpful in showing the codes and
correlated issues. I went to office hours and I thought it was extremely useful. I hate asking questions in class
because I'm afraid that other students will be exasperated with my questions. Professor Roberts is extremely
helpful during office hours and uses practice problems to help me understand the concepts. The recordings are
somewhat helpful but it's hard to coordinate the recordings with the whiteboard illustrations.
