Toyota of Orlando's tips to avoid distracted driving!
Do NOT text and drive or eat and drive! While behind the wheel, you should be
totally focused on driving!
If you have passengers in the car with you, make sure they know not to distract
you while you are driving. Remind them that their safety is in your hands!
If you’ve ever found yourself eating a snack or checking your phone while driving,
you may not realize it but you were putting yourself and multiple others in
danger. Distracted driving is responsible for 424,000 people being injured in a
motor vehicle crash in 2013. In that same year, 3,154 were killed in a motor
vehicle accident caused by driver who was distracted. Sometimes you may not
realize you are distracted while driving, but it’s important to pay attention to the
road and eliminate all distractions while behind the wheel of your Orlando
Toyota. Did you know that those distracted behind the wheel are three more
times likely to be in a crash?
Distracted driving is engaging in other activity while driving a motor vehicle. There
are three different types of distracted driving- visual, manual and cognitive. A
visual distraction means you have to take your eyes off of the road while a
manual distraction requires you to take your hands off of the wheel. A cognitive
distraction means you take your focus off of driving. If you’re doing anything
other than focusing on driving your Orlando Toyota, you are participating in
distracted driving. Examples of distractions include:
Texting or using the phone
Eating and drinking
Fixing hair or applying makeup
Adjusting the radio
Setting the navigation
Talking with passengers
Toyota of Orlando has a few tips to help you avoid distracted driving!
Put your cell phone away! If your phone is out of sight, it’s out of mind! By
keeping your phone out of arm’s reach, you are less tempted to check it,
send a text, or surf the internet.
Use Bluetooth technology! Connect your phone wirelessly to your Orlando
Toyota to make safe, hands-free calls. Stay in touch with the world but stay
safe at the same time. With this technology you can also stream your
favorite music and have your navigation played through the speakers. You
won’t have to take your hands off of the wheel or eyes off of the road!
Have less people ride along. By limiting the number of passengers in your
Orlando Toyota, you will be less distracted by conversations and possible
horseplay. The fewer the people the fewer the chances of distractions.
Drive defensively! Use Toyota of Orlando’s defensive driving tips to create a
better and safer driving experience! Be more aware, keep distance
between other vehicles and obey road rules and speed limits.
Toyota of Orlando wants to help eliminate distracted driving and we need your
help! Put the phone away, keep your eyes on the road and drive safely! It’s also
important to set a good example for your children. Kids see their role models
texting or driving distracted and assumes it is OK for them to do it also. Keep you
and your family safe by driving responsibly! If you have any questions about
