Looking For A Furrever Home
cooby
How about a high energy
cuddle pup?
Meet Scooby!
Scooby came to us as quite a handful,
but this youngster went into the prison
training program and came out better
than ever!
Scooby knows some basic commands, is
partially house trained (he’ll need a touch
more work there and a regular schedule),
and crate trained! He is still a bit strong
pulling on the leash, but his handler says
that he’s VERY smart and loves to please!
Scooby is also treat motivated! He is gentle
taking treats and when he isn’t sure what
you’re asking of him, he offers a “lay
down” in case that might be what you want?
He’s such a sweet boy who will polish out to
an excellent dog with just a bit more training
and time!
Now, he is still a puppy and has puppy
energy to burn! Scooby will need a home that
allows him to be active and have lots of play
time! Of course, this young fella loves to play
with toys and chew bones, too!
And when play time is over? He’s a cuddler!
He presses in close to you and sighs in
contentment, happy just to have
someone to love.
Scooby is good with most dogs, so if you
have an existing dog, a meet and greet is
needed to make sure that the chemistry
is right on both sides. At the prison, he
had doggie friends he could play with for
HOURS!
So is a playful, high energy cuddle
pup right for you? Come in to meet
Scooby today! Scooby is a 10 month
old Pit Bull mix, weighs 46 pounds, is
neutered, microchipped, and current on his
vaccinations. His adoption fee is just $100.

friendly. Sadly, over thirteen percent of a
coyote’s diet is cat.
It is true, that sometimes we help cats that
just can’t adjust to life inside a home, but we
still require an indoor appropriate life for them.
Cats that can’t get accustomed to socializing
usually come from a feral cat family. Although
we go to extra lengths to try to socialize them
and get them accustomed to handling by
a person, some of them never adjust. For
those cats, we lovingly place them in indoor
warehouses and barns that need mouse
control. However, they are not just put back
outside to fend for themselves.
As for dogs, we understand it is vital for your
dog to get outside exercise time but can’t
stress enough the importance of appropriate
fencing if you want to let them off their leash.
You wouldn’t believe the amount of calls we
get pertaining to lost and found dogs. They
face the same dangers that outdoor cats
do. Poisoning either intentionally or not is a
large part of their death rate living outside or
running loose, because dogs are not finicky
about what they eat. They also get hit by
cars at an alarming rate. Most times it is a
person, another animal or car that starts the
heartbreaking cycle of a dog that runs away
and is lost forever. Although we hear “my dog
is well behaved and would never run away” or
“my dog never goes very far”, there is always
something that will tempt a dog to run and
even well-behaved dogs will do so. Sadly,
many people just don’t think it will happen to

SHELTERNEWS
Tracey Miller
Director of
Operations
The work of our staff and volunteers to help
find homes for the animals that are living in our
shelter is tireless. As fast as one animal leaves,
we have multiple others come through our
doors. Although this is a never-ending portion
of our job, we still focus diligently on making
sure each animal is put in a home that they will
thrive in. That is why we normally adopt out to
indoor homes only.
Since cats can’t be contained easily, the cats
that go outside, even for just a portion of the
day, statistically do not live as long as indoor
only cats. According to the website PetInfo.
com, cats are likely to live to the “ripe old age
of 17 or more” if they are kept inside only.
Whereas, cats that live any portion of their
life outside, “live an average of just two to five
years”. The reason behind this is that they
get hit by cars, attacked and killed by other
animals, drink antifreeze, come into contact
with other cats that are FIV or FELV positive
and get poisoned by people that are not cat

Rebecca is a 5 year old Pit Bull Mix weighing a chunky 63 pounds. She is
spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccinations. She just had a
dental too. Her adoption fee is partially sponsored and is only $100!

them, but then are the ones that call us when
their dog is missing saying “my dog always
stayed in the yard”. When that call is placed to
us, many times it is too late, and the dog turns
up injured or lost forever. Unfortunately, trust
doesn’t keep a beloved pet from going missing
and we never want anyone to be the person
that wishes they would have kept their pet
on a leash or spent the extra money for safe
fencing. Keeping them safe is priceless.
I encourage you to search all the lost and
found pages on Facebook. The amount of
missing cats and dogs in Medina County alone
are overwhelming. Our hearts break for these
animals and their families.
I hope this helps shed some light on our strict
policies about keeping our rescues indoors. A
lot of the animals we take in are strays prior to
placement at the shelter. For us to put them
back into a life of living outdoors, even just part
of the day, would go against the very reason
why we exist. It is so important for us to give
each pet the loving home they deserve and
with these policies, we give each rescued
animal the best chance at finding their forever
home and staying safe.

Happy Trails
After 4 ½ wonderful years our barn manager,
Nikki, has decided to pursue a career in
teaching and research. Thankfully she will
stay on as a regular volunteer and we couldn’t
be happier. The staff and volunteers want to
extend their heartfelt appreciation to Nikki for
all her hard work and dedication. Good luck
Nikki and see you around the barn!
Welcome
The staff and volunteers want to extend
a warm welcome to Juliet who was hired
as our new barn manager.
We had a plan.
It was a good plan.
We were all going to grow old together,
watching the seasons change, finding delight
in all the little things of each day. A life
of quiet happiness.
Autumn turned to winter and we were
anticipating a blanket of snow, my person
reading in the big chair, maybe some hot
cocoa. That soft blanket that we all shared.
But we didn’t get that. Something bad
happened and suddenly there were people in
and out and disruption and confusion
and lots of talk about “the funeral”.
Our person had died.
No one could take us in, so we went to the
shelter. I didn’t know what would become of us
here, but we got our own little
room and the people said not to worry
because... they had a plan. Apparently, this is
the place to come to find new people to
love? And they said that Molly and I, well,
we’ve still got lots of love in us, so we surely
need people! They think we can each
make someone very happy – and I’m sure
they’re right!
So now we just need to find them! Me, I’m a
really good guy with a great purr! Molly, well,
she’s real sweet and a talker, too!
Both of enjoy being petted and brushed and
we’re very good at giving love!
So if you maybe know someone who would
like an older cat (or two?), can you please
send them our way? Tell them to ask for Tom
– that’s me! Or Molly, cause she’s sweet. Tom
and Molly were clearly loved and cherished
pets. But with their person gone, they are in
need of new homes and new people to love!
Because at 12 years old, they’ve still got lots of
love to give!
More about Tom and Molly:
Tom (orange and white) is on the heavy side,
but he’s quite sweet and has a great purr!
He loves to be brushed and told how
handsome he is.
Molly (black and white)is a talker! This girl has
opinions and she’s not shy about sharing them!
She also loves to be petted and is a darling girl.
Both cats are 12 years old, spayed/neutered
and current on their vaccinations. They must go
to a dog free home, but because they are not a
bonded pair, can be adopted separately. Their
adoption fee is $25.00 per cat. We will offer a
discount for anyone willing to adopt
them together.
If you are interested in Tom and/or
Molly, please click here or call
330-723-7722 for more information.

year with a troubled past that left her terrified
of human contact. She would hide underneath
her bed and cower upon anyone entering or
looking into her room. I, and other volunteers
and staff members, would sit in her room,
speaking gently to her and offering her treats.
Slowly our actions payed off and we finally
got to see glimpses of her beautiful personality.
Laverne’s first adoption unfortunately did
not go as planned, as she escaped the yard
and was lost for a couple weeks. Thanks to
the diligence of the MCSPCA and our
community, she was found and is now
in her ‘furever’ home!”
dedicated Hearts
Jessica Schuller has been a wonderful
addition to the volunteers of the MCSPCA.
Her hard work ethic and empathy for the
animals shows as she does her tasks at
the shelter. Arriving to the shelter a little
broken herself, Jessica has found healing
within the animals that we take in during
the worst part of their lives.
Jessica decided to volunteer at the
MCSPCA to try and help her out of a very
dark place. “I was having a hard time
leaving my house, among other things,
and I generally just felt overwhelming
feelings of worthlessness. I spent a lot of
time thinking about what would bring joy
back into my life. When I found out about
the MCSPCA, I felt an instant desire to
step out of my comfort zone and make
a difference.” Little did Jessica know,
through her own journey at the MCSPCA,
happiness would be found.
“Volunteering has genuinely given me
something to look forward to each week
and it brings me more joy than I could put
into words. Seeing sick, injured, terrified
cats and dogs come out of their shells
makes my heart so happy and knowing
that I have made even the tiniest impact
in teaching them how to feel love again
means the world to me. As cliché as it
sounds, volunteering has helped me to
find my purpose.”
Jessica has many tasks at the MCSPCA,
but one of her favorites is caring for the
dogs. “Whether it’s walking, playing, or just
simply sitting in the kennels with them, the
dogs never fail to fill my heart with joy”.
Through this work with the dogs, Jessica
recollects on one of her favorite happy dog
stories. “Laverne came to the shelter last
“I would like to add a huge thank you to the staff members and other
volunteers for their dedication to the MCSPCA. Everyone at this
organization is truly genuine and have the animals’ best intentions at heart.
I am so proud to be part of this amazing group of people”.
Currently Jessica is also getting some
time to spend with the cats by caring and
socializing them. Although she has not had
much experience with cats prior to this, she
has had no problem channeling her inner
cat lady. “I’ve never been a cat owner so my
experience working with cats was extremely
limited. However, I’ve found spending time
with the cats to be immensely rewarding and
would love to own one someday”.
As for her own adoption, Jessica has
one rescue dog at home. “His name is
Dakota, and he’s a medium-sized shepherd
mix. I’ve had him for over eight years now
and he’s my entire world! We’ve tried out
other dogs with him, but his past has left
him terrified of many things, unfortunately,
including other animals”.
Jessica wanted to make sure to take the
time to highlight the many wonderful people
that make up the MCSPCA. “I would like to
add a huge thank you to the staff members
and other volunteers for their dedication to
the MCSPCA. Everyone at this organization
is truly genuine and have the animals’
best intentions at heart. I am so proud to
be part of this amazing group of people”.
We would also like to extend our thanks to
Jessica for her devotion to the MCSPCA.
You have changed so many lives with your
compassion and are a joy to work with.

ADOPTION NEWS
Heather
Sometimes when we take animals in, we don’t know what has
happened in their past.
Heather is sadly one of those cases. She was surrendered to a
county shelter with no information given about her. We decided
to take a chance on Heather and see if we could help her, so we
moved her to our shelter rather than run the risk that she would
be put down.
At some point in Heather’s past, she had her front left leg
amputated. Unfortunately upon arrival the MCSPCA, we found
that her right leg had developed arthritis and walking was
increasingly difficult for this sweet dog. Additionally, upon testing
she was found to be heartworm positive. Heather has been
treated for the heartworms and is finally free of that issue.
We also decided purchase a front wheel cart to help with
her mobility. This cart will prolong her life and will be given
to Heather’s adopter, when she meets her forever family. If
you would like to help donate towards the cost of Heather’s
wheelchair, please click here. To find out more about
adopting her, please call the shelter at 330-723-7722.

Since 1985, the Medina County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a non-profit volunteer-based organization, has helped abused,
neglected and injured animals in our community. Thousands of dogs, cats, horses and other companion animals have been saved through
the efforts and generosity of our caring members and donors, to whom we are deeply grateful. To all of these donors we would like to express
our deepest gratitude.

Meet Scooby! Scooby came to us as quite a handful, but this youngster went into the prison training program and came out better than ever! Scooby knows some basic commands, is partially house trained (he’ll need a touch more work there and a regular schedule), and crate trained! He is still a bit strong pulling on the leash, but his handler says that he’s VERY smart and loves to please! Scooby is also treat motivated! He is gentle taking treats and when he isn’t sure what you’re asking of him, he offers a “lay down” in case that might be what you want? He’s such a sweet boy who will polish out to an excellent dog with just a bit more training and time! Now, he is still a puppy and has puppy energy to burn! Scooby will need a home that allows him to be active and have lots of play time! Of course, this young fella loves to play with toys and chew bones, too! And when play time is over? He’s a cuddler! He presses in close to you and sighs in contentment, happy just to have someone to love. Scooby is good with most dogs, so if you have an existing dog, a meet and greet is needed to make sure that the chemistry is right on both sides. At the prison, he had doggie friends he could play with for HOURS! So is a playful, high energy cuddle pup right for you? Come in to meet Scooby today! Scooby is a 10 month old Pit Bull mix, weighs 46 pounds, is neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations. His adoption fee is just $100. If you want more information about the terrific animals that we have at the Medina County SPCA you can call: 330-723-7722 or click here.
  • 2. friendly. Sadly, over thirteen percent of a coyote’s diet is cat. It is true, that sometimes we help cats that just can’t adjust to life inside a home, but we still require an indoor appropriate life for them. Cats that can’t get accustomed to socializing usually come from a feral cat family. Although we go to extra lengths to try to socialize them and get them accustomed to handling by a person, some of them never adjust. For those cats, we lovingly place them in indoor warehouses and barns that need mouse control. However, they are not just put back outside to fend for themselves. As for dogs, we understand it is vital for your dog to get outside exercise time but can’t stress enough the importance of appropriate fencing if you want to let them off their leash. You wouldn’t believe the amount of calls we get pertaining to lost and found dogs. They face the same dangers that outdoor cats do. Poisoning either intentionally or not is a large part of their death rate living outside or running loose, because dogs are not finicky about what they eat. They also get hit by cars at an alarming rate. Most times it is a person, another animal or car that starts the heartbreaking cycle of a dog that runs away and is lost forever. Although we hear “my dog is well behaved and would never run away” or “my dog never goes very far”, there is always something that will tempt a dog to run and even well-behaved dogs will do so. Sadly, many people just don’t think it will happen to MCSPCA Officers President Tom Jenkins Vice-President Shaun McWilliams Treasurer Nicole Florio Secretary Sandy Larson Board of Directors Jennifer Anzalone Cindy Brode Patrick Hahn Will Klingel Michael Kozimor Dr. Thomas Lehner Erica Moehring Diane Pekarek William Post MCSPCA Staff Tracey Miller Director of Operations Humane Officer Carrie Moore humaneofficer@medinacountyspca.com Newsletter Editor Tori Thomas tthomas@medinacountyspca.com Atelier Design, Graphics Tina Wagner atelierdsn@gmail.com Medina County SPCA 8790 Guilford Road Seville, OH 44273 330-723-7722 www.medinacountyspca.com info@medinacountyspca.com SHELTERNEWS Tracey Miller Director of Operations The work of our staff and volunteers to help find homes for the animals that are living in our shelter is tireless. As fast as one animal leaves, we have multiple others come through our doors. Although this is a never-ending portion of our job, we still focus diligently on making sure each animal is put in a home that they will thrive in. That is why we normally adopt out to indoor homes only. Since cats can’t be contained easily, the cats that go outside, even for just a portion of the day, statistically do not live as long as indoor only cats. According to the website PetInfo. com, cats are likely to live to the “ripe old age of 17 or more” if they are kept inside only. Whereas, cats that live any portion of their life outside, “live an average of just two to five years”. The reason behind this is that they get hit by cars, attacked and killed by other animals, drink antifreeze, come into contact with other cats that are FIV or FELV positive and get poisoned by people that are not cat Rebecca Rebecca is a 5 year old Pit Bull Mix weighing a chunky 63 pounds. She is spayed, microchipped and current on her vaccinations. She just had a dental too. Her adoption fee is partially sponsored and is only $100! Medina County SPCA The Shelters Perspective
  • 3. BarnNews them, but then are the ones that call us when their dog is missing saying “my dog always stayed in the yard”. When that call is placed to us, many times it is too late, and the dog turns up injured or lost forever. Unfortunately, trust doesn’t keep a beloved pet from going missing and we never want anyone to be the person that wishes they would have kept their pet on a leash or spent the extra money for safe fencing. Keeping them safe is priceless. I encourage you to search all the lost and found pages on Facebook. The amount of missing cats and dogs in Medina County alone are overwhelming. Our hearts break for these animals and their families. I hope this helps shed some light on our strict policies about keeping our rescues indoors. A lot of the animals we take in are strays prior to placement at the shelter. For us to put them back into a life of living outdoors, even just part of the day, would go against the very reason why we exist. It is so important for us to give each pet the loving home they deserve and with these policies, we give each rescued animal the best chance at finding their forever home and staying safe. Did you know that you can help our shelter just by walking your dog? Go to www.wooftrax.com or download the Walk For A Dog app on your smart phone. www.wooftrax.com Happy Trails After 4 ½ wonderful years our barn manager, Nikki, has decided to pursue a career in teaching and research. Thankfully she will stay on as a regular volunteer and we couldn’t be happier. The staff and volunteers want to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Nikki for all her hard work and dedication. Good luck Nikki and see you around the barn! Welcome The staff and volunteers want to extend a warm welcome to Juliet who was hired as our new barn manager.
  • 4. We had a plan. It was a good plan. We were all going to grow old together, watching the seasons change, finding delight in all the little things of each day. A life of quiet happiness. Autumn turned to winter and we were anticipating a blanket of snow, my person reading in the big chair, maybe some hot cocoa. That soft blanket that we all shared. But we didn’t get that. Something bad happened and suddenly there were people in and out and disruption and confusion and lots of talk about “the funeral”. Our person had died. No one could take us in, so we went to the shelter. I didn’t know what would become of us here, but we got our own little room and the people said not to worry because... they had a plan. Apparently, this is the place to come to find new people to love? And they said that Molly and I, well, we’ve still got lots of love in us, so we surely need people! They think we can each make someone very happy – and I’m sure they’re right! So now we just need to find them! Me, I’m a really good guy with a great purr! Molly, well, she’s real sweet and a talker, too! Both of enjoy being petted and brushed and we’re very good at giving love! So if you maybe know someone who would like an older cat (or two?), can you please send them our way? Tell them to ask for Tom – that’s me! Or Molly, cause she’s sweet. Tom and Molly were clearly loved and cherished pets. But with their person gone, they are in need of new homes and new people to love! Because at 12 years old, they’ve still got lots of love to give! More about Tom and Molly: Tom (orange and white) is on the heavy side, but he’s quite sweet and has a great purr! He loves to be brushed and told how handsome he is. Molly (black and white)is a talker! This girl has opinions and she’s not shy about sharing them! She also loves to be petted and is a darling girl. Both cats are 12 years old, spayed/neutered and current on their vaccinations. They must go to a dog free home, but because they are not a bonded pair, can be adopted separately. Their adoption fee is $25.00 per cat. We will offer a discount for anyone willing to adopt them together. • 5. year with a troubled past that left her terrified of human contact. She would hide underneath her bed and cower upon anyone entering or looking into her room. I, and other volunteers and staff members, would sit in her room, speaking gently to her and offering her treats. Slowly our actions payed off and we finally got to see glimpses of her beautiful personality. Laverne’s first adoption unfortunately did not go as planned, as she escaped the yard and was lost for a couple weeks. Thanks to the diligence of the MCSPCA and our community, she was found and is now in her ‘furever’ home!” dedicated Hearts Jessica Schuller has been a wonderful addition to the volunteers of the MCSPCA. Her hard work ethic and empathy for the animals shows as she does her tasks at the shelter. Arriving to the shelter a little broken herself, Jessica has found healing within the animals that we take in during the worst part of their lives. Jessica decided to volunteer at the MCSPCA to try and help her out of a very dark place. “I was having a hard time leaving my house, among other things, and I generally just felt overwhelming feelings of worthlessness. I spent a lot of time thinking about what would bring joy back into my life. When I found out about the MCSPCA, I felt an instant desire to step out of my comfort zone and make a difference.” Little did Jessica know, through her own journey at the MCSPCA, happiness would be found. “Volunteering has genuinely given me something to look forward to each week and it brings me more joy than I could put into words. Seeing sick, injured, terrified cats and dogs come out of their shells makes my heart so happy and knowing that I have made even the tiniest impact in teaching them how to feel love again means the world to me. As cliché as it sounds, volunteering has helped me to find my purpose.” Jessica has many tasks at the MCSPCA, but one of her favorites is caring for the dogs. “Whether it’s walking, playing, or just simply sitting in the kennels with them, the dogs never fail to fill my heart with joy”. Through this work with the dogs, Jessica recollects on one of her favorite happy dog stories. “Laverne came to the shelter last “I would like to add a huge thank you to the staff members and other volunteers for their dedication to the MCSPCA. Everyone at this organization is truly genuine and have the animals’ best intentions at heart. I am so proud to be part of this amazing group of people”. Currently Jessica is also getting some time to spend with the cats by caring and socializing them. Although she has not had much experience with cats prior to this, she has had no problem channeling her inner cat lady. “I’ve never been a cat owner so my experience working with cats was extremely limited. However, I’ve found spending time with the cats to be immensely rewarding and would love to own one someday”. As for her own adoption, Jessica has one rescue dog at home. “His name is Dakota, and he’s a medium-sized shepherd mix. I’ve had him for over eight years now and he’s my entire world! We’ve tried out other dogs with him, but his past has left him terrified of many things, unfortunately, including other animals”. Jessica wanted to make sure to take the time to highlight the many wonderful people that make up the MCSPCA. “I would like to add a huge thank you to the staff members and other volunteers for their dedication to the MCSPCA. Everyone at this organization is truly genuine and have the animals’ best intentions at heart. I am so proud to be part of this amazing group of people”. We would also like to extend our thanks to Jessica for her devotion to the MCSPCA. You have changed so many lives with your compassion and are a joy to work with. If you are interested in volunteering with the MCSPCA, please call 330-723-7722 for more information. DedicatedHearts JessicaSchuller

  • 8. ADOPTION NEWS Heather Sometimes when we take animals in, we don’t know what has happened in their past. Heather is sadly one of those cases. She was surrendered to a county shelter with no information given about her. We decided to take a chance on Heather and see if we could help her, so we moved her to our shelter rather than run the risk that she would be put down. At some point in Heather’s past, she had her front left leg amputated. Unfortunately upon arrival the MCSPCA, we found that her right leg had developed arthritis and walking was increasingly difficult for this sweet dog. Additionally, upon testing she was found to be heartworm positive. Heather has been treated for the heartworms and is finally free of that issue. We also decided purchase a front wheel cart to help with her mobility. This cart will prolong her life and will be given to Heather’s adopter, when she meets her forever family. If you would like to help donate towards the cost of Heather’s wheelchair, please click here. To find out more about adopting her, please call the shelter at 330-723-7722. “We decided to take a chance on Heather and see if we could help her.”
