4. Questions for the coming data production?
• There is no substitute for statistics comparable globally and over time, but their information content
and formation cycle are not sufficient for many social decision-making situations.
Wise reasoning and decision-making based on it combines comparable statistics and specific
information related to problems. In what role are the national statistical institutes going to be
involved in this?
The information needs of business management are simpler when the final yardstick is the euro -
the problems are more complex in public activities where there are many simultaneous goals.
• The success of information management is determined by dialogue across the information value
chain.
The supply of information and the demand arising from the challenges of management meet
weakly from the start. The key to success is a multiprofessional dialogue. How are the platforms
produced that are needed for this dialogue? What will be the role of statistical institutions in this?
