Topic
How to develop
good study habits
in students ?
1- Creating Your Ideal Study Space :
# Pick one place, and like it.
# Recreate your environment.
# Get comfortable—but not too comfortable.
# Look for natural light.
# Swap music for ambient noise.
# Turn off your phone.
How to develop good study habits in students ?
2- Find a regular time for studying :
# If you study at the same time each day, your brain
will be prepped for learning when you sit down.
# Review your schedule and see when you have free
time.
# Schedule an hour or two for studying during those
times each day.
# You can study during gaps between classes or in
the evening after your classes are done for the day.
3- Organize your materials :
# Make sure you have everything you need to study at
your study space.
# If you're studying in a place in your home, keep things
like your books, pencils, pens, and scrap paper in that
area.
# If you go out to study, invest in a book bag with a lot of
compartments and keep all your study supplies stored
there
4- Create a group study :
# Form an effective study group.
# Show up prepared.
# Stay organized and focused.
# Pick a format for your group study session.
# Pick an appropriate meeting place.
# Additional things to consider.
5- Develop critical reading skills :
# Critical Thinking is an Extension of Critical
Reading. Thinking critically, in the academic
sense, involves being open-minded .
# Survey.
# Question.
# Read.
# Recall.
# Review.
6- Practice Active Listening :
# It’s important for students to
concentrate and avoid distractions
when an instructor is presenting.
# Some tips to share with your child
include: try concentrating on the main
points being made, think about what
the speaker is saying and pay attention
to how things are said (gestures, tone
of voice, etc.).
# They should avoid talking or
thinking about problems when
listening.
7- Read Actively :
# It’s all too easy for students to skim over an
assigned book chapter and not know the main
points of what they just read.
# Help your student to practice active reading by
asking him or her to note the main idea of each
passage and look up unfamiliar words or
concepts.
# Make an outline of the chapter or create flow
charts and diagrams that help map out the
concept at hand.
8- Known Your Dominent Learning
Style :
# spatial prefer using pictures, images,
and spatial understanding.
# Auditory-musical prefer using sound
and music.
# linguistic prefer using words, both in
speech and writing.
# kinesthetic prefer using your body,
hands and sense of touch.
9- Create and Write down Realistic Study Goals :
# If your goal is too big to achieve, then you might be
setting yourself up for help motivate you to study.
# Here are some questions to ask yourself :
# When do you usually study and for how long ?
# Do you find that it is effective ?
# Are you happy with your grades ?
10- Review Your Notes :
# Before and after your study
sessions, you should always skim
your notes from the recent lesson
or topic you studied before
starting on a new one.
# If you couple reviewing your
notes with a god nights sleep, then
you will significantly improve
your ability to retain more
information.
11- Environment :
# Don’t set yourself up for failure. Find a
quiet place where you can concentrate.
# It is also beneficial to study or complete
school work in the same place every time,
if possible.
# This constant routine sends the message
to your brain and creates a Pavlovian
response – better preparing you to focus
and learn.
12- Time Management :
# Often, the biggest deterrent to
studying is a lack of time.
# Time management is a key
component of academic success.
# Most importantly, you must have a
plan.
# Use an academic planner, calendar,
or app on your phone to block out
times that are dedicated to
schoolwork and study.
# Then stick to it! Treat your study
time like your work schedule –
uncompromising and rigid.
13- Motivation/Goals :
So, how do you stay motivated?
# School and studying can be hard and
the distractions and endless.
# It is a good idea to set up goals and
rewards for yourself.
# Create positive associations with
completing your work, further
encouraging yourself to continue.
# Maybe you earn a break for a segment
of time worked, or a fun night out with
friends, or a quick jog.
# Whatever reward motivates you.
14- Organization :
# It is almost impossible to
concentrate in the midst of chaos.
# Take the time to organize your
thoughts, your papers, and your
work before you get started.
# Create a system to file paper
work, organize different classes,
and separate assignments.
# Clearing your area will help
clear your head. As simple as it
sounds, having pens, pencils,
highlighters, calculators, etc.,
readily available helps the
studying process.
15- Study during the morning :
# It has been proven that studying in
the morning is more effective, as your
mind and body are rested enough to
start working hard.
# If you start studying by the end of
the day, your memory has retained so
much information for the day that it
gets tired and you stop retaining as
much as you could in comparison to
the morning.
THANK YOU
