2. Here are the tips to achieve Vairagya:
Practice humility in daily life
Humility takes us towards Vairagya. There are various
ways to develop humility in our attitude:
We can try by offering a place to sit to elderly people, or
children, or pregnant women.
We must help physically impaired people in various
walks of life, maybe as small as a thing like helping a
blind person cross the road.
We often dislike some people but we should never find
happiness in their misery or suffering.
Never hesitate in apologizing.
Share food with people around us.
Give your time and energy to people in need.
3. Control senses
In Yoga, we believe to moderate all our activities and
senses. All our actions should also be controlled.
When we have our favourite food in front of us we can’t
control and continuously eat. We eat more than our
appetite. We forget the sole purpose of food. We should
only eat how much we should, we shouldn’t get drifted
away with desire.
Stop making impulsive decisions. Every action should
be done after the mind gets calm. Don’t act on the basis
of impulses.
We generally focus less on our responsibilities and
spend time on entertainment and fun. We should cut
down on that and focus on important things in life.
All this will help you focus on the important things in life.
Things that are just for pleasure will automatically get
side-lined.
4. Practice asanas regularly
The following asanas can help you inculcate the
bhavna of Vairagya in you. Practice them regularly
for better results.
Nishpanda Bhava: In this asana the objective is to
attain a ‘motionless state of mind’. Try to focus on
one of the organs and not be deviated from it. Try
not to think anything in this.
Yogendra Pranayam 4: This is a breathing
technique which betters your lungs. This is also
known as diaphragmatic breathing. It relaxes you
completely.
Shavasana: In this we consciously relax our mind
and entire body. We practice detachment in this.
