  4. 4. Venice is a city build ON THE WATER Actually, the city is built on different islands, MANY different islands.
  5. 5. Venice doesn’t use roads, it uses canals. ◦The biggest canal in Venice is called the Grand Canal. It’s shaped like an S and goes through the whole city.

  8. 8. Why would people move here? ◦ Venice was started in 400 AD. ◦ They were running away from the Italian mainland, where it wasn’t safe to live anymore. There were lots of battles and wars going on. ◦ It was difficult to get to Venice and hard to find with large boats, so the early Venetians were safe!
  9. 9. Want to visit? ◦Each year, 20,000,000 people visit! ◦But… only 50,000 people live there!
