-600075-523875Religion
“Religion is a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of life and the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a supernatural agency.”
(Wikipedia Article)
Or
“Human beings relation to that which they regard as holy, sacred, spiritual, or divine”.
Many religions have narratives, symbols, traditions and sacred histories that are intended to give meaning to life. They tend to derive morality, ethics, religious laws or a preferred lifestyle from their ideas about the cosmos and human nature. The word religion is sometimes used interchangeably with faith and belief system, but religion differs from private belief in that it has a public aspect. Most religions have organized behaviors, including congregations for prayer, priestly hierarchies, holy places, and scriptures.
Academics studying the subject have divided religions into three broad categories. These are as under:
World religions.
Indigenous religions.
New religious movements.
,[object Object],It is a term which refers to Tran cultural and international faiths.
,[object Object],It refers to smaller, culture-specific religious groups.
,[object Object], It refers to recently developed faiths.
Development of Religion
The development of religion has taken different forms in different cultures. Some religions place greater emphasis on belief, while others emphasize practice. Some religions focus on the subjective experience of the religious individual, while others consider the activities of the community to be most important. Some religions claim to be universal, believing their laws and cosmology to be binding for everyone, while others are intended to be practiced only by one, localized group. Religion often makes use of meditation, music and art. In many places it has been associated with public institutions such as education, the family, government, and political power.
One of the more influential theories of religion today is social constructionism, which says that religion is a modern concept suggesting all spiritual practice and worship follows a model similar to Christianity; social constructionism suggests that religion, as a concept, has therefore been applied inappropriately to non-Western cultures..
What Sociology says about Religion
“The word religion is the matter of faith or belief system, based on conviction rather scientific evidence.”
Religion differs from private belief in that it has a public aspect. Most religions have organized behaviors, including congregations for prayer, priestly hierarchies, holy places, and scriptures. They use different symbols to represent there self’s.
,[object Object],The sociology of religion concerns the role of religion in society; the practices, historical backgrounds, developments and universal themes of religion in society. There is particular emphasis on the recurring role of religion in all societies and throughout recorded history. The sociology of religion is distinguished from the philosophy of religion in that it does not set out to assess the validity of religious beliefs, though the process of comparing multiple conflicting dogmas may require what Peter L. Berger has described as inherent quot;
methodological atheismquot;
. Whereas the sociology of religion broadly differs to theology in assuming indifference to the supernatural, theorists tend to acknowledge socio-cultural reification of religious practice.
Modern academic sociology began with the analysis of religion in Durkheim's 1897 study of suicide rates amongst Catholic and Protestant populations, a foundational work of social research which served to distinguish sociology from other disciplines, such as psychology. The works of Karl Marx and Max Weber emphasized the relationship between religion and the economic or social structure of society. Contemporary debates have centered on issues such as secularization, civil religion, and the cohesiveness of religion in the context of globalization and multiculturalism. The contemporary sociology of religion may also encompass the sociology of irreligion (for instance, in the analysis of Secular Humanist belief systems).
(Wikipedia Article)
Religions of the world
The World Religion Map represents on a global scale the distribution of the world's major religions. Depicting all the religions of the world on a single world map is no mean task,
as difficulties arise while representing areas where a multitude of world religions exist with no single religion predominating; or areas which are inhabited by adherents of different sects of one parent religion - perhaps an ancient religion - and such other problems. Therefore the world religion map attempts to represent the main religions practiced in a particular geographical area oregion. The yellow color in the World Religion Map depicts the countries in which Christianity or Christian religion is practiced like for instance, in the whole of America, Russia and Australia and in other regions as well. Catholic religion has the largest number of followers in all world religions. In the world map by religion below, the green color represents countries which are followers of Islamic religion or Islam and these are mainly Arabic countries and some others in Africa and south-east Asia. The followers of Islam are often called Muslims. Religion world map has it that Taoism; another major religion denoted by light brown color is practiced in most areas of China.
In the religion map of the world, Buddhism is depicted by mauve color and is mainly practiced in Sri Lanka, parts of China and others. India, which is a multi-cultural and sovereign republic, has been depicted with colored stripes in the world religions' map. The other religions of the world are shown in light crème color. Sikhism, Judaism religion , whose practitioners are called Jews, and Hinduism are shown in deep blue, red and orange colors respectively. In the world map of religion given below, all these varied colors have been used carefully so that it becomes easier for users to differentiate between the various countries and religions as well. The World Religion Map is a very comprehensive and reliable source of information about world religion facts. It will provide you a world outline about the religious demographics of the world. The major religion map of the world given below can also serve as world religion population map and will come in handy for those doing research on religion history.
World Religion Map:
(Maps of World Your Window to the World Buy high quality maps online!)
Here is a list of few world religions:
,[object Object],
Christianity
,[object Object]
The Bible is the Word of God. It is inspired and inerrant in its original autographs. It is a complete and final revelation of God.
There is one God and only one God. He is personal and knowable. He manifests Himself in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh, born of a virgin, without sin, and the chosen Messiah who will one day set up his kingdom on earth.
Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, was buried, rose again from the dead, ascended back to heaven, and will one day return to this earth again.
All persons are sinners, guilty before God, deserving of judgment, and in need of a Savior, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Salvation from sin, death, and hell is by God's grace, based on the work of Jesus Christ alone. It is received by faith apart from any human performance or merit.
Eternal life is a gift of God and nothing can separate the believer from the love of God.
Unbelievers face eternal punishment. Believers face eternal life.
All believers should attend a local church for mutual edification, encouragement, evangelism, service and worship.
(Idea, International debate education association)
Symbols that are used in Christianity:
47148755619750The main symbol of the Christian religion is the cross. The cross is a symbol of Jesus' death for us so that we may have eternal life. But there is also a couple other symbols. One is the Ichthys (the fish symbol) that represented that God was the fisher of men.
Another is the dove. The dove is a symbol of the Holy Ghost.The Orthodox faith has a special cross as a symbol of their faith. It is made up of two horizontal and ne diagonal bar crossing a vertical pole of two horizontal, and one diagonal bar crossing a vertical pole of two horizontal, and one diagonal bar.
The Catholic faith's main symbol is the crucifix. A crucifix is a just a regular cross that bears the image of Jesus being crucified. It also symbolizes the release of the soul in death.
(Wikipedia Article)
,[object Object],The Christian cross, seen as a representation of the instrument of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, is the best-known religious symbol of Christianity. It is related to the crucifix (a cross that includes a usually three-dimensional representation of Jesus' body) and to the more general family of cross symbols.
The cross-shaped sign, represented in its simplest form by a crossing of two lines at right angles, greatly antedates, in both East and West, the introduction of Christianity. It goes back to a very remote period of human civilization. It is supposed to have been used not just for its ornamental value, but also with religious significance.
In Christianity the cross reminds Christians of God's act of love in Christ's sacrifice at Calvary, quot;
the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.quot;
The cross also reminds Christians of Jesus' victory over sin and death, since it is believed that through His death and resurrection He conquered death itself. They venerate it not as a material object seen in isolation but as the symbol of the sacrifice by which Christ saved them, as the instrument of Christ's triumph, according to Colossians 2:15 (quot;
Having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the crossquot;
) and “as the instrument of our God's saving love”.
(Wikipedia Article)
3943350657225Belief about Judgment Day:
In Christianity, the final judgment of God on all people at the end of history. It will occur at the second coming of Christ, when the dead are resurrected. It is especially important in millennialism denominations (see millennialism). In Islam, the Day of Judgment is described in the Quran and the Hadith. Religions that include reincarnation (e.g., Hinduism) lack a Day of Judgment; the determination of how an individual is to be reborn being a particular judgment on the merit of the life just lived.
Signs before the Day of Judgment:
,[object Object]
Books/writing will be widespread and (religious) knowledge will be low (Ahmad)
Adultery and fornication will be prevalent (The Prophet, peace be upon him, said that this has never happened without new diseases befalling the people, which their ancestors had not known.) (Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah, & Al-Haythami) .
When fornication becomes widespread among your leaders (The Prophet, peace be upon him, said that this will happen when the people stop forbidding evil) (Ibn Majah) .
Adultery and fornication will be performed in the open .
The consumption of intoxicants will be widespread (Bukhari & Muslim).
Women will outnumber men......eventually 50:1 (Bukhari, Muslim, & Ahmad).
Killing, killing, killing (Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah, & Ahmad) .
The nations of the earth will gather against the Muslims like hungry people going to sit down to a table full of food. This will occur when the Muslims are large in number, but "like the foam of the sea".
People will beat others with whips like the tails of oxen (Muslim) ?The Slave Trade .

 • 54. Hinduism is essentially an Indian phenomenon. It is the dominant faith of India, practiced by over 80% of the population. Since religion is a way of life in India, Hinduism forms an integral part of the entire Indian tradition. It is not easy to define Hinduism, for it is much more than a religion in the Western sense. According to some scholars, Hinduism is not exactly a religion. Also known to practitioners as Sanatana Dharma, which means everlasting or eternal religion / truth / rule, Hinduism can best be defined as a way of life based on the teachings of ancient sages and scriptures like the Vedas and Upanishads. The word 'dharma' connotes "that which supports the universe" and effectively means any path of spiritual discipline which leads to God.
