DR.SUDHIR CHANDRA SUR DEGREE ENGINEERING COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING PROJECT PART II –AUE 893 (2012-16) NON CONVENTIONAL ENERGY USING TWO WHEELER SILENCER SUBMITTED BY :-  TAPAN KUMAR MANDAL (GROUP LEADER)  DEEPAK KUMAR SAHU  RANJIT JHA  ZAFAR HUSSAIN  PRAVESH TIWARI  ALOK KUMAR SHAW
  2. 2. OBJECTIVES The objective of the project work is to design and analysis of charging vehicle battery using bike exhaust gas.  Assembling of setup components properly in order to direct conversion of kinetic energy of exhaust gases in to electrical power.  Charging of battery is to indicate the supply of electric current produced by a setup.
  3. 3. SYNOPSIS In this project we are generating electrical power as non- conventional method by vehicle silencer. Non-conventional energy system is very essential at this time to our nation. Energy generation using vehicle silencerneeds no fuel input power to generate the output of the electrical power. This project using simple mechanism such as alternator and silencer. For this project the conversion of the force energy in to electrical energy. The control mechanism carries silencer, alternator and frame. We have discussed the various applications and further extension also. The number of bikes are increasing day by day. So this project is implemented to all vehicles, the power generation may charge battery. The initial cost of this arrangement is not high.
  4. 4. WORKING PRINCIPLE Power is generated by using automobile exhaust gas is very simple and easy non-conventional process. Energy generation using vehicle silencer needs no fuel input power to generate the output of the electrical power. This project using simple mechanism same as wind energy power generation. For this project the main Working Principle is Conversion of the forced kinetic energy into electrical energy. In this the exhaust gases released from the automobile Silencer is used to rotate the turbine (fan blades) by arranging it is very conveniently. The nozzle is attached to the silencer is used to proper flow of exhaust gases with high velocity and steady flow with uniform direction to rotate the turbine. The generator attached to the turbine with shaft is used to convert the forced kinetic energy(K.E) into electrical energy(E.E) is by rotating generator. Then it works with the battery to generate power for the electrical components of a vehicle, like the interior and exterior lights, and the instrument panel.
  5. 5. COMPONENTS AND ITS FUNCTIONS The generations of electricity using the flow or velocity of vehicle exhaust gas of the following components tofull fill the requirements of complete operation of the machine. 1. Electric generator 2. Turbine 3. Battery 4. Blower
  6. 6. EXAUST SILENCER PIPE Engine exhaust noise is controlled through the use of silencers and mufflers. Generally speaking, there is no technical distinction between a silencer and muffler and the terms are frequently used interchangeably. A silencer has been the traditional name for noise attenuation devices, while a muffler is smaller, mass-produced device designed to reduce engine exhaust noise.
  7. 7. EXPERIMENTAL SETUP Here we are placing a turbine in the path of exhaust in the silencer. Ablower is also placed in place of a engine. The turbine is connected to a dynamo (CPU FAN) which is used to generate power. Depending upon the airflow the turbine will start rotating, and then the dynamo will also starts to rotate. A dynamo is a device which is used to convert the kinetic energy into electrical energy. The generated power is stored to the battery. It can be stored in the battery after rectification. The rectified voltage can be inverted and can be used in various forms of utilities. The battery power can be consumed for the users comfort.
  8. 8. ADVANTAGES Power generation is simply running the vehicle on this arrangement. No need fuel input. This is a Non-conventional system. Battery is used to store the generated power DISADVANTAGES Some modifications to be done with silencer  Care should be taken of assembly
  9. 9. APPLICATIONS Power generation using vehicle exhaust system can be used in most of the Two wheelers and Four wheelers. • It is applicable for all stationary and moving vehicles. • It is applicable for all automobiles. • The generating power is applicable for household uses. • No problems of discharge in the batteries. • It is a simple non-conventional energy energy process. • This generating power can reduce the need of power. • To generate the power no need of fuel input.
  10. 10. CONCLUSION From the study, it has been identified that there are large potentials of energy savings through the use of waste heat recovery technologies. Waste heat recovery entails capturing and reusing the waste heat from internal combustion engine and using it for heating or generating mechanical or electrical work. It would also help to recognize the improvement in performance and emissions of the engine if these technologies were adopted by the automotive manufacturers. The study also identified the potentials of the technologies when incorporated with other devices to maximize potential energy efficiency of the vehicles. The project carried out by us made an impressing task in the field of mechanical department. It is used for to produce the current in vehicle exhaust unit. This project has also reduced the cost involved in the concern. Project has been designed to perform the entire requirement task which has also been provided. The study also identified the potentials of the technologies when incorporated with other devices to maximize potential energy efficiency of the vehicles. The project carried out by us made an impressing task in the field of automobile department. It is used for to produce the current in vehicle exhaust unit.
