In the year 2000, Dave Winer(software designer and author of the RSS format)  created a way to {enclose} audio files inside of an RSS feed, and thus podcasting was born. Podcasting became very popular by 2004 and in 2005 The New Oxford American Dictionary named “Podcast” the word of the year adding it to the 2006 update. (Runners up included bird flu,reggaeton, Sudoku, and trans fat.) Where did it all start?
Defines a Podcast as:   			“A digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player.” New Oxford American Dictionary
You don’t need an iPod, or any personal audio player to listen to a podcast. There is nothing really being broadcast in the traditional sense. Programs are instead downloaded. Don't let the name misslead you.
“True podcasts,” allow for a listener to subscribe to feeds and automatically receive new episodes of the show.  This is done by two main technologies.   RSS Feeds Aggrigators, or “Podcatchers” True Podcasts
Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication It give  a summary description of that specific feed and its contents. Every time a new program is posted an new feed is created. RSS Feeds
Interprets the RSS feed and either notify the listener or automatically downloads the program. The most common is iTunes (57% of the market) Other programs end up playing the audio through iTunes anyway so its easier to use it from the start. Aggrigators or "Podcatchers"
You can schedule your “podcatcher” to check for new episodes of your subscribed feeds at set intervals. (Example, every 4hrs., or 30 minutes) After subscribing this makes the process very much automatic. Scheduling a Podcatcher
The website will either give you the URL which you will past into your “podcatcher.” Or, you can right click on the podcast link and select, “copy link location”, then past that URL in the catcher. In iTunes this is under the Advanced menu, titled Subscribe to Podcast. How to Subscribe to a Podcast
1. Plan out the podcast, possibly writing a script.  2. Assembling the proper gear and recording the audio.  3. Edit your show and convert it to MP3 format  4. Upload, publish and promote your program. How to make a Podcast
Listen to other peoples podcasts, see what you like and don’t like. There is BIG MONEY to be made in the near future from podcasts. In production, advertising, and publishing.
