2. About
Hi, I’m Wee Leong, 19. I’m a very curious person, or at least I’d like to believe that I am, when com-
pared to most. Black is my favourite colour, even though its technically not a colour. I used to dream
of wanting to be a farmer. But now I would rather be a famous photographer or sculptor. My favourite
artists are Louise Bourgeoise, Robert Mapplethorpe, Ad Reinhardt and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. I’m
really bad at talking about myself, so I guess this is it.

a wide mix of curated and un-curated photos ,such as
reposts. As such, to fit into Ssense current Instagram
style. Posts of this collaboration will be just simple pho-
tos by Rinko Kawauchi. This will help promote the col-
laboration as well as shed light on the under appreciat-
ed talent Rinko Kawauchi.

10. Digital Marketing
Ssense has a rather humorous and
youthful take on their use of social me-
dia. Ssense uses memes, emojis and
other non conventional styles for their
digital marketing.
To be in tradition with Ssense style of
juxtaposition. The digital marketing
content on Facebook will use, models
wearing products from this collabora-
tion, weirdly superimposed into Rinko
Kawauchi’s photographs. If that’s not
enough, the advertising pictures will
also be accompanied with goofy tag
phrases. This will definitely catch the
viewers’ attention making them more
interested in this collaboration.
This choice for digital marketing is ben-
eficial for both Rinko and Ssense. This
will not only help promote Rinkos work
giving her the recognition she deserves.
But will also be a way which Ssense can
attract, promote and redirect consum-
ers to the shop page for this limited col-
laboration collection.

12. The Burnt House
2012 to 2014. Enroute to school and fro, the burnt down, once
not so burnt house, was a landmark that I vividly remembered.
It stood out from the rest of its surrounding buildings and
structures. It was rather quaint, evoking a sense of unknown
nostalgia in me. Some days, Ill stare out the window of mum’s
car, looking at this weird little house wondering. What’re ya
doing there. Are you someone’s house? Probably not, there are
banners, of furniture for sale, hung freely on the fences. Is it
a shop? Is it a shophouse? I was ever curious but never did
bother heading down to take a look, or had the time and effort
to search for it online.
Early February 2019. (I’ve moved places a while back, around
late 2014s, early 2015s). It’s a rare occasion, Mum drove past
the same old route, the one we used to take on our way home
from school. Once again, I looked out the window awaiting to
see that old little building, as though it was a long-lost friend
of mine. To my dismay, it was burnt! Burnt, so thoroughly
almost nothing was left, just a huge pile, a mountain of ash.
A sense of uneasiness started to overwhelm me, regret filled
my face, as my mind was reprimanding me, “why did you not
check that place out earlier…”. That being said, my eyes told
a different story. It was glued, so glued it could not leave the
scene. The pile of morbid dark ashes, the ashes of what they’ve
lost what I’ve lost, mesmerised me. Its beauty was indescrib-
able. I knew I had to make up for what I’ve lost, by heading
down to the place. I continued the rest of the ride in silence.
As days go by, I frequently thought about the place. I imagined
myself, dressed in clothes I no longer wanted, with a group of
my closest friends, fellow adventurers, exploring the deepest
and darkest realms of the thick black ash. I even went to the
extend, where I found an article about it, and even went online
to search what it was.
24th February 2019, I finally managed to find the drive and
time to explore the place. Along with my fellow companion
Ernest, and a trusty film camera we headed out to the un-
known. We must’ve been a week or two late, for the surviving
structures which were protruding out of the ashes, has been
cleared. The mountains of dark morbid ashes that have been in
my head, have also been cleared, or have simply been washed
of by the wind and rain. Sure, I was disappointed I was once
again too late. But this adventure does not end here...

19. Dad and his dying trade
I always hated going to Dad’s office, almost as much as I hated broccoli.
I hated the smell, the sight and even the sounds of the office. I always felt
that I was unwelcomed there, maybe more of not being able fit in? As if
I ever wanted to.
Dad will be retiring soon, heard this news a few months back. The econ-
omy is not doing so well, and this is a scarce trade to begin with, no
market, low demands. It just hit me, so where is our income going to
come from? After realizing, Dad’s recently been having an awful temper
and mood on the dinner table. Should’ve known sooner, it was caused
by the company horrible business, leading in heavy monthly deficits. I,
have yet to hear a complain though. Still a little over a month ago, we
were just planning our familys’ end of year trip to Japan. One day, when I
was alone with Mum, I asked, if Dad has been losing money why doesn’t
he just stop. The reasons why? I shall not get into details of. Let’s just say
it’s a romantic relationship between Dad, his company, his staff and his
craft.
I’m honestly not sure, is it me just growing older, having a change in style
and things I like, or did this news touch me. I’m wavering. It was only
two, three years ago, right after my O levels, I was called over to my Dad’s
office, dragged would be a more accurate word. I hated it, I hated second
of it. I was tasked to assist in cleaning wax molds and arranging them in
numeric order. More importantly, I was tasked to create an online stock
and order system, which never took off, for I was caught twice sneakily
having a League of Legends session with friends. Was a truly horrible
experience, my laptop was confiscated for a good week, literal torture…?
Letting the news slowly sink in, the smell that I once hated from the
office slowly receded. The Mando-Pop songs that the old radio machine
played suddenly became less irritating, actually enjoyable. I told Dad I
wanted to make some silver rings on my own, could I go to his office.
Wanting to meet and learn more about this craft I heard dad held so
closely to his heart. Dad agreed.
With an open heart and open mind, I headed to the office, with a whole
new perspective on things, I started.
Having completed this batch of rings, I felt a sense of great accomplish-
ment, with back lying feelings of sorrow, worry… a mixed emotion of
sort. I can’t believe, that I could only see the interesting side of these
people, the staff, passionate, underappreciated. The beauty of the art, the
craft, the amount of hand work that is put into each ring. The place,
the company, Goldenfarm, Dad’s “baby”, the thing that kept me alive for
these 19 years. The sublime beauty of Dad’s Dying Trade.

26. My Works
My First Batch Of Rings
March 2019. I went down to Dad’s office 3/4
times a week. I document and learn the craft of
making rings. It was an overall tiring but enjoy-
able process. I was surprised by the amount of
hand labour that goes into a single ring.
Above is a simple look book ive made with the
few rings ive made.
Below are my notes for my making proccess.
