Qatar Petroleum Refinery
Position : Senior Electrical Technician.
Job Duration : Oct 2000 to Present.
The Qatar Petroleum Refinery is the only refinery in Qatar which started as a small topping plant in
1958 and has grown over the years into a giant oil refinery. The main activity of the Refinery is to
process the crude oil and condensate into various finished petroleum products, which are intended to
meet the domestic demand as well as for export. The main finished products are liquefied petroleum gas
(LPG), naphtha, premium gasoline, super gasoline, jet fuel, diesel and fuel oil. The approx. production of
the refinery is 150,000 BPSD.
Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL)
Position : Electrical Technician.
Job Duration : Oct 1994 to Oct 2000.
Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) is one of the pioneer exploration and production (E&P) companies in
Pakistan’s Oil & Gas sector. The Company's principal activity is to explore, develop and produce oil and
natural gas resources. Sui, Pakistan’s oldest & largest gas field discovered and operated by PPL,
contributing 25% of Pakistan’s gas production. Today the Sui gas field produces around 700 MMcfd of
natural gas daily from 88 wells completed during 53 years of production.
Main Responsibilities :
 Plan, execute and supervise scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance for
electrical installations under area of responsibility to achieve the department KPI’s.

2.  Diagnoses, troubleshooting, repair and replaces faulty parts on all electrical equipment
in assigned area of responsibility in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and
company policies to assure equipment integrity and availability.
 Recommend the required spare replacement during preventive / corrective maintenance
 Review the spare parts list and report for the missing/improper items to minimize the
repair and equipment down time.
 Ensure that all special instruments, tools and relevant spares are available and safe for
usage prior to starting work in order to minimize downtime.
 Carry out the electrical isolation and switching of HV (11kv, 3.3KV) and LV (415 V,
240 V) equipment’s in accordance to company policies and procedure to assure safe
work condition for plant electrical and rotating equipment.
 Supervise the electrical installations and testing under area of responsibilities for
quality and integrity assurance.
 Supervise team of electrical technicians, general technicians and contractors.
Coordination of Shut down activities with contractors. Give the daily feedback and reports
to area engineer / senior engineer.
 Execution of various types of Work Permits (PTW) by using RIS (Refinery Information Systems)
module.
 Using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with SAP-R/3 Module for
notifications, work orders, acceptance and completion. Material reservation and Issuing from
store etc.
 Maintains daily contact with the Supervisors / senior technicians of other section and
operation’s shift controllers / shift supervisors to carry out and plan / schedule the maintenance
activities.
 Assisting Senior Electrical Engineers in critical jobs, design study of plant equipment, updating/
Modifying existing equipment, plant change request (PCR) etc.
 Reviews equipment history and performance, contributes to plant failures investigation and
makes recommendations for improvement. Liaises with Operations and Inspection to ensure
equipment is retained in good functional order at all times.
 Maintain equipment history records. Make reports of Major/critical failure of equipment and
jobs performed on them.
 Assist electrical engineers to prepare scope of work for contracted jobs and do technical
evaluation of contractor’s bids etc.
 Support training department by extending the service of on job training to coach and counsel
newly recruited National trainees in the refinery.
 Participate in a Standby/on call assignments and to be readily available in order to
support the operation team for emergencies.
 Prepare the feedback of the weekly WOs, Back log, Man Hours and send to Planning
and Area Engineer.
 Fully conversant with LOTO procedure, JHA, NEMA, NETA, ANSI, IEC, HAZOP, IP
Standards, ATEX etc.

3. Key Achievements:
 Active participation in every stage of the Revamping and refinery expansion project i.e.
Installation, testing, commissioning etc. in 2002.
 Leading the Team of Technicians, Contractors and helpers for the Maintenance of 11KV , 3.3
KV, 415 V Switch Gears, Circuit Breakers, Transformers, Motors, Heaters etc. during the
Major Shut down and Turn Around in 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2015.
 Prepared complete data sheets for each & every equipment installed in the refinery related to
electrical section.
 Assist senior electrical engineer to review and modify the preventive maintenance task list,
intervals & performing procedures for electrical motors, Circuit Breakers, Transformers,
Heaters and Lighting system.
 Actively participated in the major overhauling of 15MW steam turbine driven Power Generator
along with Vendor (Siemens).
 Preparing the list of spare parts used in each equipment with part number, SAP material
Number, Used quantity, Available Quantity etc.
Work Profile:
Hands on experience of Operation, Maintenance and trouble shooting of following electrical equipment;
SWITCHGEARS:
HV & LV switchgears “ABB, SCHNEIDER, NEI REYROLLE, HOLEC, TRINDLE, GEC,
TERASAKI” etc (11kv, 6.6Kv, 3.3kv, 400v) with associated control circuits (110Vac, 110Vdc), OCBs,
VCBs, ACBs, Feeders, Automatic bus transfer system, Automatic restarting system, Motor control
centers (MCCs), Load changeover, Isolation/cancellation, protection relays testing etc.
GENERATORS :
4.01MVA Generators “ANSALDO” and its auxiliaries which are driven by frame-1 “NOUVO
PIGNONE” gas turbine model MS 1002 J. The responsibilities include maintenance, trouble shooting,
load transferring, Synchronizing and testing of protection relays with primary and secondary injection
set.
15MW Steam turbine Driven Generator (SIEMENS) and its protection and control system.
700 KVA and 250 KVA emergency Diesel Generators (Hyundai).
85KW Gas engine Driven small power Generators (Caterpillar).
TRANSFORMERS:
Step Down Transformers up to 5MVA “HYUNDAI, PAWELS, SIEMENS, PEEBLES” ETC.
Periodic inspection, Maintenance, Oil testing, Oil Replacement / Treatment, Insulation resistance testing,
Protection relays testing etc
MOTORS:
Overhauling and maintenance of Various types of HV & LV electric motors according to hazardous area
classification like “GEC, BROOK, ALSTOM, LOHAR, ABB, SIEMENS” etc (11KV, 3.3KV, 400V),
6.6KV Variable frequency Drive (VFD) motors “GEC” along with associated control circuits.
