3. Duties and responsibilities: Onsite management and resolution of engineering, design and construction
issues to ensure the project was completed in accordance with the design and to NATREF standards, the
co-ordination and monitoring of progress, quality and safety of the appointed mechanical contractor for the
construction, punchlisting, testing, commissioning and final handover the following to NATREF operations
department:
A new 8 bay road tanker loading gantry for the dispatch of 2 off Diesel products, 2 off Petrol products,
Jet fuel and Illuminating Paraffin from the Refinery.
Installation of product supply piping from tie-in points in the Refinery Tank farm to the above gantry.
Additive receipt facilities, above ground storage tanks, pumps and stainless steel pipework for the injection
of 10 off additives to each loading bay of the above Gantry.
Diesel, Petrol and Off Spec returns facility inclusive of pumps and pipework to return products to the
refinery Tank farm.

safety of the appointed civil, structural, mechanical and electrical contractors for the construction,
punchlisting, testing, commissioning and handover of the following to the client TOTAL:
A new road tanker and rail tanker loading gantry, a new product pumpbay to feed petroleum products to the
new loading gantries and various storage tank and piping modifications to receive and dispatch products at
the new loading facilities via the new product pumpbay. Upgrade and the refurbishment of storage tanks
and tank inlet and outlet piping to suit client specifications.
Relocation of a firewater storage tank. A new fire water & foam fire fighting pumpstation complete with
new tank farm firewater & foam distribution piping to tank bund area foam pourers, tank top foam pourers,
tank cooling rings & deluge sprinkler systems at the new road & rail tanker loading gantries.

Project: Construction Management of cement manufacturing plant – Aktau Village, Kazakhstan.
Position: Mechanical/Piping Project Engineer.
Duties and responsibilities: Management of mechanical, materials handling equipment and piping
installations for the upgrading and modernisation of an existing Russian built cement manufacturing plant.
Design review and construction management of new internals of existing cement grinding ball mills, cement
transport pipework from mills to cement storage silo’s, upgrade of dust and cement filters and the dispatch
of cement from the silo’s. Broke down the scope of work into work packages, obtained quotations from
designers and contractors to carry out the required renovation and modernization, monitored installation,
progress, payment, etc. of the above.

Project: Construction Management of cement manufacturing plant – Ewekoro, Nigeria.
Position: Mechanical/Piping Project Engineer.
Duties and responsibilities: Management of mechanical installation of new cement plant and the upgrading
of existing works.
Design review and construction management of new gas pipeline, water pump station, cement packing plant,
clinker transport conveyors, new cement grinding ball mill and cement transport pipework to cement
storage silo’s. Produced scopes of work, obtained quotations from contractors and monitored installation,

piping, tanks, structures, fire fighting systems etc. to ensure that all drawings are adequate for and
accepted by clients for the construction of various country wide petroleum industry storage facilities, road
and rail tanker loading depots, ship loading and unloading basins etc. Compiling bills of quantities and project
cost schedules. Liaison with contractors and clients to resolve design and construction issues. Inspection of
completed works to access and verify progress payment claims and compile completion punchlists, Onsite
supervision to clear outstanding items and capture relevant information required to update all
documentation to “Asbuilt” status prior to hand over of works to clients.

Project: Design and construction of flat products facility in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
Position: Piping and Utilities Project Engineer.
Duties and responsibilities: Attended 6 month design review and approval of Direct Reduction Iron
production plant in Pittsburg, USA. Monitored the onsite installation of tanks, pressure vessels, mechanical,
piping etc. Inspected installations to ensure the plant was installed as per contract, specifications and
design. Punchlisted completed piping, mechanical equipment, HVAC equipment and fire fighting systems with
contractors prior to testing, commissioning and plant acceptance.
Attended weekly project management meetings to report and review construction related issues. Held
meetings with contractors to prioritise and access construction progress and approve progress payments.
Company: Caltex Oil South Africa. Dates: March 1992 – September 1996
Project: Capetown refinery lead free (Isomerization) plant installation.
Position: Piping Field Engineer.
Duties and responsibilities: Supervised the prefabrication and installation of piping, piping structural
supports, access platforms, pump bases, pumps within the existing refinery to accommodate the addition of
the lead free (Isomerization) plant. Tagged all piping tie-in points and issued work packages to construction
crews for installation during plant shutdowns. Communicated all battery limit tie-in information to plant
designers. Supervised and monitored the construction of the above to ensure that the work was installed as
per drawings and specifications and within the time constraints of the shutdowns. Compiled bills of
materials for site modifications. Issued materials and drawings to nominated area sub-contractors for
installation.

Project: Construction of Mosgas oil refinery – Mossel Bay.

Duties and responsibilities: Broke down the piping scope of works into practical work packages for the
fabrication and erection of Offsite and Utility Units piping systems. Supervised the draughting of piping
isometrics from GA’s for pipe fabrication, installation and QA/QC material and weld recording purposes.
Prioritized fabrication and installation of piping for material controllers, construction crews and QA/QC
department inspectors. Monitored progress of installations for weekly progress meetings with the site

Project: Margarine refinery expansion project.
Position: Piping/Mechanical Technician
Duties and responsibilities: Supervised the installation of piping, vessels and mechanical equipment for the
expansion of a margarine refinery. Completed a survey of the existing mineral oil heating circuit in the
existing plant to reduce high circuit head losses. Supervised the rerouting of mineral oil piping circuits to
improve the efficiency of pumps and heat exchangers. Produced sketches and supervised the modifications
required to improve and upgrade the peanut oil crushing plant dust extraction unit.
