Author identifiers are
unique identifiers
assigned to researchers
to prevent the
author ambiguity problem
within the scholarly community
because of researchers having the
same first and last names.

Digital Author Identifier (DAI)
system assigns a unique number
to all academic authors as a form
of authority control.

Author identifiers are unique identifiers that
allow authors distinguish themselves from other
researchers and to unambiguously associate
themselves with their work.
Author ambiguity in the scholarly community is a
persistent problem due to:
• One author publishing under multiple variations of
the same name
• Common names
• Name changes, e.g. marriage
• Cultural differences in naming

is an identifier used in Web of Science, a citation database.
allows researchers to add publications even if they are not indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection.

Note: Since April 2019, ResearcherID has been migrated to a new platform - Publons. With Publons, researchers now can have a comprehensive view of
