This is a recommendation for Sylecia Johnston.
As a result of Mrs. Johnston’s passion for travel and educating others about different
cultures, she began volunteering at The Office of International Affairs at Texas Tech
University in the summer of 2008. She exhibited excellent oral and written
communication and presentation skills, possessed a dedicated work ethic, which coupled
with a vibrant personality led to a part-time student position in the K-12 International
Education Outreach department. She was a significant asset to The Office of International
Affairs even while pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Global Affairs. She worked in this
office through June of 2010.
Her flexibility is specifically noted when she was willing to pause her projects and
research current issues and data in order to update curriculum for the Honor’s course
“Africa’s Role in the Contemporary World.” Her work was prompt and thorough.
Sylecia also has proven her ability to be a catalyst and a leader. She was the founder and
president of “Global Connections,” a student organization for international students and
for those interested in travel and culture. Through this organization, Sylecia planned
multiple gatherings and events and welcomed many international students to their new
campus.
She is exceptionally creative and organized, presents herself in a professional manner,
and is able to effectively multi-task to ensure all projects are completed in a timely
manner. She is capable of making decisions within her realm of authority, which
advances the mission of the department. She would be an extremely valuable asset to any
employer and I highly recommend her for any endeavor she chooses to pursue.
