1. Analyze the effects of the Black Death on Western Christendom, the Islamic
World, and China.
2. Assess the impact of silver from the Americas on trade, governance, and
international relationships in at least two European powers as well as the
Ming dynasty of China.
3. Describe the colonial empires that emerged in North America and the
Caribbean between 1600 and 1750. Analyze the factors that shaped a
colony’s development.
4. Analyze how the Enlightenment was defined both in terms of ideas and in
terms of social practices and explain the context from which those ideas and
practices emerged. What were the global effects of Enlightenment thought?
Each essay is worth 50 points and will be evaluated in the following manner:
