Topic: Bio-Diversity
What does Bio- Diversity means ?
Biodiversity is defined as the variety of all living
things; the different plants, animals and
microorganisms, the genetic information they
contain and the ecosystems they form.
3. Types Of Bio- Diversity
There are 3 type of Bio diversity
Genetic Diversity- The genetic variation among individuals in a species.
Species Diversity- The number of different species in a given area
Ecosystem (Habitat) diversity- The variety of interactions among organism
in a community (or the variety of ecosystem on Earth.
5. Why is Bio-diversity important ?
* Bio-Diversity ensures health and food security - Biodiversity ensures health and
food security Biodiversity underpins global nutrition and food security. Millions of
species work together to provide us with a large array of fruits, vegetables and
animal products essential to a healthy, balanced diet – but they are increasingly
under threat.
*Bio-Diversity helps fight diseases-Most people do not realize the importance of
biodiversity in keeping ecosystems healthy, stable, and functional. Many plants,
animals, birds, insects, etc., play an important role in controlling other organisms
like disease-causing parasites by feeding on them directly indirectly.
*Bio-Diversity protect us - Biodiversity conservation protects plant, animal, microbial
and genetic resources for food production, agriculture, and ecosystem functions
such as fertilizing the soil, recycling nutrients, regulating pests and disease,
controlling erosion, and pollinating crops and trees.
6. Threads Of Bio-Diversity
What are the main threats to biodiversity?
Changes to how we use the land and waters. Both our lands and our seas
contain many different ecosystems, and these are affected by business
actions.
Overexploitation and unsustainable use.
Climate change
Increased pollution
Invasive species.
7. Conservation Of Bio-Diversity
Planting Tree
Using alterative resource of energy
Establishing protected areas
Protecting biodiversity
Hunting restriction
Proper planting
Population Control
Imparting Environment Education
