Previewing a text means to get an idea of what we are going to find
in a particular text or in other words it is a skill of learning about a
text before reading.
This is simple skill includes seeing what we can learn from head
notes or other introductory materials, skimming to get an idea of
the content and taking a look at how the text is organised.
Three objective is :
To identify the author’s most important points
To recognise how they fit together
To note how you respond to them.

Get an overview of the context, purpose and content of the reading :
What does the title mean?
What can you discover about ‘when’, where and for who of the
written text?

What chapter or units does the text fit into?

Identifying argument : consists of two parts
Claim or statement that summarizes the main idea.
Reasons why that claim is true and or evidence to support that claim.
Evidence is presented often in the form of a citation.
Argument structure –
A main argument, or thesis is presented first.
Then, different sections are formed with the purpose of supporting
the main argument.
Within those sections, we find paragraphs which hold the purpose of
supporting the sections that support the thesis.
