                   Elections

Today’s Learners, Tomorrows Leaders.
What is Student Org.?
     The voice of social work students at ALL
      academic centers at the University of Southern
      California.
     Fosters communication and cooperation among

      students, faculty and administration on issues
      important to the field of social work and social work
      education.
Student Org. duties:
   Monthly meetings with Deans, administration
   Monthly Full board meetings
   Bi-weekly Student Org. Board meetings
   Organize events:
       Homecoming tailgate
       All school day
       Legislative days
       Social Work Month
       Flynn Cup
Differences between Student Org
and Caucuses
      Student Org.: Advocates on behalf of the student
       body, representing its collective ideas, interests and
       concerns relevant to the profession and the
       curriculum.

      Caucuses: Caucuses are student organizations
       within the School of Social Work that promote
       awareness of specific constituencies and special
       interests, and service to the community through
       professional, educational, social and community
       events.
Student Org. Board
President
     Monitors the functions of the Student Org. Board and
      provides support as needed.
     Represents Student Org. to university and the School of

      Social Work administrators.
     Serve as the representative and contact person for the

      NASW, other universities, agencies, organizations, etc.
Vice President
     Monitors the progress of all standing caucuses and interest
      groups as the direct link between caucus and student
      interest group activities and Student Org. officers
     Recruits and coordinates student volunteer for school-wide

      events, i.e. Summer Welcome, Orientation Week, etc.,
     Coordinates All School Day and Legislative info. Days.
Treasurer
    Supervises preparation of annual Student Org. budget.
     Distributes funds to School Social Work caucuses and
     student interest groups. Monitors the use of Student Org.
     funds
    Assists School Social Work caucuses and student interest

     groups in recognition process. Evaluates and approves all
     budgetary reports from the executive board, caucuses and
     student interest groups.
Secretary
    Manages the Student Org. website, Listserv, Facebook
     site, newsletter, calendar and e-mail account
    Compiles minutes of Executive and Full Board Meetings

     and Lunches with the Deans, and other meetings where
     minutes are requested. Assists President with reports,
     administrative letters, press releases, newsletters, etc.
Elections and Recruitment Chair
     Coordinates Full Board election during the Spring
      semester and orientation in the Fall Semester for the
      Foundation Year GSG Rep.
     Recruits for Student Org. positions, committees, and for

      student involvement.
Graduation Chair
    Acts as liaison between the USC School of Social Work
     Special Events Coordinator and Student Org.
    Chairs the Graduation Committee

    Sets deadlines for naming school’s graduation speaker,

     theme, student speaker, Jane Addams Faculty recipient,
     and reports this information to the Executive Board, Full
     Board and the Deans.
Community Service Chair
    Plans and coordinates ongoing School of Social Work
     community service events, in all the academic center
     communities,. Creates new community service
     opportunities utilizing the diverse expertise of the School
     of Social Work, in all the academic center communities.
    Chairs the Trojans in the Community Committee

     meetings. Plans with Student Org. the annual Social Work
     Month in March
Graduate Student Government
Concentration Rep.
   Serves as the Student Org. rep. and liaison to Graduate
    Student Government. Acts as a liaison between the School
    of Social Work Director of Professional Development and
    the Daily Trojan.
   Represents the concerns of the School of Social Work at

    the GSG Full Board meetings, when deemed appropriate
    and/or necessary
   Coordinates the School of Social Work annual Flynn Cup.
Skirball Academic Center Rep.
    Serves as the representative and liaison for the Skirball
     Academic Center and its caucuses, student interest groups
     and organizations.
    Distributes and disseminates all pertinent Student Org.,

     GSG, and graduate student news/information to Skirball
     Academic Center students.
    Represents the concerns of the Skirball students to the

     Executive, Full Board, Deans and the Director of the
     Skirball Academic Center
Orange County Academic Center
Rep.
    Responsible for serving as the representative and liaison
     for the OCAC and its caucuses, student interest groups and
     organizations.
    Distributes and disseminates all pertinent Student Org.,

     GSG, and graduate student news/information to the OCAC
     students.
    Represents the concerns of the OCAC students to the

     Executive, Full Board, Deans and the Director of the
     Orange County Academic Center.
San Diego Academic Center Rep.
     Serves as the representative and liaison for the SDAC and
      its caucuses, student interest groups and organizations.
     Distributes and disseminates all pertinent Student Org.,

      GSG, and graduate student news/information to SDAC
      students.
     Represents the concerns of the SDAC students to the

      Executive, Full Board, Deans and the Director of the
      SDAC.
Virtual Academic Center Rep.
     Serves as the representative and liaison for the VAC and
      its caucuses, student interest groups.
     Distributes and disseminates all pertinent Student Org.,

      GSG, and graduate student news/information to VAC
      students.
     Represents the concerns of VAC students to the

      Executive, Full Board, Deans and the Director of the
      VAC.

     You get to meet with the Deans once a month to update each other
    about the program
    Meet   new people and build relationships
   HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
     Provide direction and Leadership

       Receive a book stipend
       Gain skills in:
                • Project management
                • Budgeting/Financial management
                • Fundraising
                • Community Engagement
                • Advocacy/Networking
Requirements:
 3.0 GPA
 Student Org. Term: May 2012 - May 2013
 Must have completed at least one
  semester
 Attend Transitional meeting April 21, 2012

Election Procedure
 Once candidates submit their Intent to
  Run form, they may begin campaigning
  starting March 26 - April 13, 2012
 On–line voting will be conducted during April
  9 - April 13, 2012 ;
 EVERY candidate will be individually notified
  by phone before the school-wide
  announcement.
Campaign Procedure
   Candidates may begin campaigning on March 26, 2012
   It is recommended that students campaign on their own.
   Individual candidates may be supported by other individuals but not by
    entire student groups (i.e. student caucuses, interests groups or
    Student Org.)
   Candidates may NOT post fliers on glass or windows of any
    buildings. They may post only at designated areas such as bulletin
    boards.
      UPC campus: MRF, SWC,VKC
        For SAC, OCAC, SDAC, VAC Academic Center campaigning, candidates
         must contact the respective Student Org. representative for appropriate
         posting sites
   Posters and fliers found at inappropriate locations will be torn down
    and discarded.
   No TRASH talking about other candidates
   Be careful how you use social media
   Candidates may NOT campaign via the student listserve. Each
    individual is responsible for the clean up of fliers posted. All
    campaigning materials must be taken down by April 16, 2012.

  • 1. 2012-2013 Student Org. Elections Today’s Learners, Tomorrows Leaders.
  • 2. What is Student Org.?  The voice of social work students at ALL academic centers at the University of Southern California.  Fosters communication and cooperation among students, faculty and administration on issues important to the field of social work and social work education.
  • 3. Student Org. duties:  Monthly meetings with Deans, administration  Monthly Full board meetings  Bi-weekly Student Org. Board meetings  Organize events:  Homecoming tailgate  All school day  Legislative days  Social Work Month  Flynn Cup
  • 4. Differences between Student Org and Caucuses  Student Org.: Advocates on behalf of the student body, representing its collective ideas, interests and concerns relevant to the profession and the curriculum.  Caucuses: Caucuses are student organizations within the School of Social Work that promote awareness of specific constituencies and special interests, and service to the community through professional, educational, social and community events.
  • 6. President  Monitors the functions of the Student Org. Board and provides support as needed.  Represents Student Org. to university and the School of Social Work administrators.  Serve as the representative and contact person for the NASW, other universities, agencies, organizations, etc.
  • 7. Vice President  Monitors the progress of all standing caucuses and interest groups as the direct link between caucus and student interest group activities and Student Org. officers  Recruits and coordinates student volunteer for school-wide events, i.e. Summer Welcome, Orientation Week, etc.,  Coordinates All School Day and Legislative info. Days.
  • 8. Treasurer  Supervises preparation of annual Student Org. budget. Distributes funds to School Social Work caucuses and student interest groups. Monitors the use of Student Org. funds  Assists School Social Work caucuses and student interest groups in recognition process. Evaluates and approves all budgetary reports from the executive board, caucuses and student interest groups.
  • 9. Secretary  Manages the Student Org. website, Listserv, Facebook site, newsletter, calendar and e-mail account  Compiles minutes of Executive and Full Board Meetings and Lunches with the Deans, and other meetings where minutes are requested. Assists President with reports, administrative letters, press releases, newsletters, etc.
  • 10. Elections and Recruitment Chair  Coordinates Full Board election during the Spring semester and orientation in the Fall Semester for the Foundation Year GSG Rep.  Recruits for Student Org. positions, committees, and for student involvement.
  • 11. Graduation Chair  Acts as liaison between the USC School of Social Work Special Events Coordinator and Student Org.  Chairs the Graduation Committee  Sets deadlines for naming school’s graduation speaker, theme, student speaker, Jane Addams Faculty recipient, and reports this information to the Executive Board, Full Board and the Deans.
  • 12. Community Service Chair  Plans and coordinates ongoing School of Social Work community service events, in all the academic center communities,. Creates new community service opportunities utilizing the diverse expertise of the School of Social Work, in all the academic center communities.  Chairs the Trojans in the Community Committee meetings. Plans with Student Org. the annual Social Work Month in March
  • 13. Graduate Student Government Concentration Rep.  Serves as the Student Org. rep. and liaison to Graduate Student Government. Acts as a liaison between the School of Social Work Director of Professional Development and the Daily Trojan.  Represents the concerns of the School of Social Work at the GSG Full Board meetings, when deemed appropriate and/or necessary  Coordinates the School of Social Work annual Flynn Cup.
  • 14. Skirball Academic Center Rep.  Serves as the representative and liaison for the Skirball Academic Center and its caucuses, student interest groups and organizations.  Distributes and disseminates all pertinent Student Org., GSG, and graduate student news/information to Skirball Academic Center students.  Represents the concerns of the Skirball students to the Executive, Full Board, Deans and the Director of the Skirball Academic Center
  • 15. Orange County Academic Center Rep.  Responsible for serving as the representative and liaison for the OCAC and its caucuses, student interest groups and organizations.  Distributes and disseminates all pertinent Student Org., GSG, and graduate student news/information to the OCAC students.  Represents the concerns of the OCAC students to the Executive, Full Board, Deans and the Director of the Orange County Academic Center.
  • 16. San Diego Academic Center Rep.  Serves as the representative and liaison for the SDAC and its caucuses, student interest groups and organizations.  Distributes and disseminates all pertinent Student Org., GSG, and graduate student news/information to SDAC students.  Represents the concerns of the SDAC students to the Executive, Full Board, Deans and the Director of the SDAC.
  • 17. Virtual Academic Center Rep.  Serves as the representative and liaison for the VAC and its caucuses, student interest groups.  Distributes and disseminates all pertinent Student Org., GSG, and graduate student news/information to VAC students.  Represents the concerns of VAC students to the Executive, Full Board, Deans and the Director of the VAC.

Why be involved?  You get to meet with the Deans once a month to update each other about the program Meet new people and build relationships  HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!  Provide direction and Leadership  Receive a book stipend  Gain skills in: • Project management • Budgeting/Financial management • Fundraising • Community Engagement • Advocacy/Networking

Election Procedure  Once candidates submit their Intent to Run form, they may begin campaigning starting March 26 - April 13, 2012  On–line voting will be conducted during April 9 - April 13, 2012 ;  EVERY candidate will be individually notified by phone before the school-wide announcement.
  • 22. Campaign Procedure  Candidates may begin campaigning on March 26, 2012  It is recommended that students campaign on their own.  Individual candidates may be supported by other individuals but not by entire student groups (i.e. student caucuses, interests groups or Student Org.)  Candidates may NOT post fliers on glass or windows of any buildings. They may post only at designated areas such as bulletin boards.  UPC campus: MRF, SWC,VKC  For SAC, OCAC, SDAC, VAC Academic Center campaigning, candidates must contact the respective Student Org. representative for appropriate posting sites  Posters and fliers found at inappropriate locations will be torn down and discarded.  No TRASH talking about other candidates  Be careful how you use social media  Candidates may NOT campaign via the student listserve. Each individual is responsible for the clean up of fliers posted. All campaigning materials must be taken down by April 16, 2012.
