Editor's Notes
I’m Sophie and today I am going to pitch to you my idea for the multiplatform journalism project, which is mobile technology in the work place.
For my project, I am going to create both a written and digital feature that will inform professionals between the ages of 35-50 how mobile technology can benefit themselves and their businesses.
Although many older professionals do already own smartphones, they are often not aware of all the features available to them and tend to stick to the basic email, text and phone functions. There are thousands of apps available for mobile devices, many of which are free, that could be massively beneficial to business men and women. I will explore some of these in my written feature.
These are the 4 main topics I will cover in my written piece.
My written feature will introduce professionals to the benefits of implementing mobile technology in the workplace
The feature would be suitable for both print and online articles in a style similar to that of The Guardian’s Technology pieces
My digital feature is going to be a 90 second tutorial video demonstrating useful smartphone features and helpful applications
The video would also be suitable for The Guardian’s online Technology section, where review, tutorial and announcement videos are posted. The video would also be available on youtube aswell as news websites frequently used by business men and women.
I think my idea is interesting because I will be teaching professionals between the ages of 35-50 how they can implement new technology into every day life both in the workplace and at home. Things that these people may not even know are possible but could be hugely beneficial to themselves and their businesses.
My main source of information will be gathered from technology magazines and websites that discuss the features available through mobile technology. I will also look at the technology sections of newspaper websites that are frequently visited by my chosen demographic, as this is the platform I am targeting my piece at. I will also talk to professionals to find out how much they already know about mobile technology and to determine what aspects of social media could benefit their businesses.
As of the 7th of October, there are now officially more mobile devices than humans in the world, with 7.22 billion devices and only 7.19 billion people. Todays society revolves around smartphones and social media, and the careers of future generations will rely on mobile technology. This fast-changing industry isn’t slowing down any time soon, that’s why it is important for us to begin to learn these things now and make use of the great technology that is available to us.
