Social Media for Civil Society - Cornwall
1. The Programme
Social Media for Civil Society™ is an innovative
marketing programme created by Social Traders
CIC, a social enterprise that promotes trade for
social purpose. This one day programme enables
charities, social enterprises and voluntary
organisations to improve the marketing of their
services and engage directly with customers and
supporters using social media tools such as
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Slideshare,
Wordpress, Google and YouTube.
Why the programme
Marketing is changing rapidly in response to the widespread use of social media for both personal
and business use. The need today for every organisation to build open and transparent
relationships with its customers, partners and investors is of paramount importance and civil
society is no exception. The 2010 report by Carnegie UK Trust “Civil Society and Social Media:
Making the Connection” forecasts that should civil society organisations fail to become more
flexible and adaptable; those which do not adapt to changing technologies risk becoming irrelevant.
Civil society associations must consider how developments in technology will affect relationships
with their members/supporters and should prepare for a world in which technology is mainstream.
Who should attend
The programme is designed for people with responsibility or real interest in marketing and
promoting their project, voluntary group, charitable organisation or social enterprise. Trustees,
directors, staff members and volunteers are all welcome. Those organisations with an agreed
business plan or marketing campaign will benefit the most from participation. A basic working
knowledge of the internet /email is required.
