3. We all depend on the planet
to support us
but we must
support the
planet too!
4. Waste Generation in India
The Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering
Organization (CPHEEO) has estimated that India generates 150
million tones of waste in a day and most of it is left in the
landfills at the city outskirts leaving a stinking smell and
vultures hovering over heaps of hazardous material.
5. Waste management is a major problem in India. Faced with rapid
population growth, disorganization of city governments, a lack of
public awareness and limited funding for programs, cities have
struggled for years to find a way to responsibly manage the country’s
ever-increasing amount of trash.
Only 10-20 per cent of the city waste is
recycled in an environment-friendly way and
the rest is allowed to lie in the landfills.
Waste Management in India
10. Every time you buy
something it has to
be replaced on the
shelf. Factories
produce more and
more to meet our
needs.
11. We add to pollution indirectly by increasing
the demand for manufactured goods.
Electrical Goods
For Entertainment
& Convenience
Toys
Clothing Footwear
Cosmetics
Furniture
12. Shops
encourage us to
buy more goods
than we really
need.They want to
make as
much profit
as they can.
We like to try
new things too.
We are
consumers.
13. Factories which produce more and
more manufactured goods to pollute
the atmosphere directly with gas and
airborne particles.
14. Non bio-degradable packaging also pollutes
the environment. Packaging is expensive.
Why pay more for expensively packaged
goods, when the package is then just thrown
away? Such packaging ends up in a landfill
site and takes many, many years to
biodegrade.
15. We also add to air pollution directly by
using our cars and bikes when it is not
always necessary to do so.
Walking is
healthier
Cycling keeps you
fit too!
16. While global warming affects the
environment and weather patterns.
The earth’s atmosphere is
overheating due to the
hole in the ozone layer
Acid rain is
damaging buildings,
crop sand vegetation.
18. Of
course!!!
R E C Y C L E
To make the most out of
what we produce..... WE
MUST…
19. These materials can be easily
separated for recycling at home.
•Newspaper •Metal•Glass •Plastic
20. Use paper bags, yellow
bags, and cardboard
boxes for carrying your
shopping. They can be
reused, recycled, and they
are also biodegradable.
Most plastic carrier bags are not
eco friendly because they are
made from polythene which can
take many years to rot. Very few
are biodegradable. Others can be
returned to the shop and replaced
21. Our bins are overflowing
with more and more
rubbish. How many bags
does your family produce
every week?
22. Pollution harms the environment. The
environment is a life support system that
all living things depend on. If the
environment is harmed, so are all living
things.
23. Recycle your old clothes by handing
them down to others and then
donating them to a charity etc...
30. 7 Benefits of
Recycling
• Financial Benefit
• Conservation of
Resources
• Energy savings
• Community Building
• Jobs creation
• Strong economy
• Environmental Protection
32. Recycling is a
choice
• The plastic bottle, paper scrap, or
used cell phone won’t recycle
itself…
• It’s up to YOU to make that choice
to recycle.
33. Recycling is a way
of life
• Once you make the choice to
recycle…
• And stick to that choice everyday…
• Recycling becomes second nature –
a way of life.

110 years after the first recycling plant was established, the United States today has one of the highest recycling rates in the world.
There is still so much room for growth - 55 percent of the 250 million tons of solid waste end up in our landfills.
What is Recycling? Whenever we try and define recycling, we need to think of the three r's of modern waste management: reduce, reuse, recycle.
“Reduce" means: Decreasing unnecessary and wasteful purchases, decreasing the volume of waste, and decreasing pollutants.
"Reuse" means taking care of our things so that they can last longer, repurposing used items, donating or giving away unwanted stuff, and upcycling waste materials.
Recycling benefits you, society, and the environment.
The 7 Benefits of Recycling are: Financial Benefit, Conservation of Resources, Energy savings, Community Building, Jobs creation, Strong economy, and Environmental Protection.
Recycling Builds Community: People work together, Communicate, Share ideas, and Support each other when they're involved in a worthy common endeavor like recycling.
What is recycling?
Recycling is a choice: The plastic bottle, paper scrap, or used cell phone wont recycle itself. Its up to YOU to make that choice to recycle.
Recycling is a way of life: Once you make the choice to recycle, And stick to that choice everyday, Recycling becomes second nature - a way of life.
