Order of Service 2011

  1. Death may end a Life but it can never end a relationship (Julies Leicester)
  2. A welcome to Kidlington Baptist Church and to our Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving led by: Peter Allen (Elder of Kidlington Baptist Church) Reading Not How Did They Die, But How Did They Live? Read by Simon Fletcher (Senior Staff Nurse, Adult Intensive Care) Not how did they die but how did they live? Not, what did they gain, but what did they give? These are the units that measure the worth Of man as man, regardless of birth. Not what was their church, nor what was their creed? But had they befriended those really in need? Were they ever ready with a word of good cheer? To bring back a smile, to banish a tear? Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say, But how many were sorry when they passed away? Anon
  3. Hymn Love Divine (Blaenwen) Love divine all loves excelling, Joy of heaven to earth come down; Fix in us thy humble dwelling All thy faithful mercies crown. Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Pure, unbounded love Thou art; Visit us with Thy salvation, Enter every trembling heart. Breathe, O breathe, thy loving Spirit, Into every troubled breast! Let us all in Thee inherit, Let us find Thy promised rest. Thee we would be always blessing, Serve Thee as Thy hosts above, Pray and praise Thee without ceasing, Glory in Thy perfect love. Finish then Thy new creation, Pure and spotless let us be; Let us see Thy great salvation, Perfectly restored in Thee! Changed from glory into glory, Till in heaven we take our place; Till we cast our crowns before Thee, Lost in wonder, love and praise. Charles Wesley (1707–88)
  4. Reading To Those I Love Read by Azaad Suliman (Senior Staff Nurse, Adult Intensive Care) If I should ever leave you whom I love To go along the silent way, grieve not. Nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk Of me as if I were beside you there. (I’d come – I’d come, could I but find a way! But would not tears and grief be barriers?) But when you hear a song or see a bird I loved, please do not let the thought of me Be sad…. For I am loving you just as I always have…. You were so good to me! There are so many things I wanted still To do – so many things to say to you…. Remember that I did not fear… It was Just leaving you that was so hard to face…. We cannot see Beyond…. But this I know: I loved you so – ’twas heaven here with you! Isla Paschal Richardson
  5. Whilst the names of the people we are remembering today are being read out by members of the Units staff we invite you to come forward and light a candle in their memory A reflection by Rev Deborah Wilde Reading I Was Loved, Therefore I Am Read by Carolyn Soanes (Senior Sister, Adult Intensive Care Unit) I was loved, therefore I am; and in being loved, I am treasured. When I peeled away my layers, and all that was left was my essence, the bareness of me, I was still loved. I was loved, therefore I am; and in being loved I was able to grow, in my mistakes held, in my successes celebrated, I was always loved. I was loved, therefore I am; And in being loved I learn to love. In the sun filled day, in the ecstasy of the night, I was loved and loved others. To be loved is all you need: I was loved ... and so, I will always be. Ana Draper
  6. Peter Allen will now lead us in Prayer Reading When Tomorrow Starts Without Me Read By Helen Beveridge, (Staff Nurse Adult Intensive Care) When tomorrow starts without me and I'm not there to see; If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me. I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today; While thinking of the many things we didn't get to say. I know how much you love me, as much as I love you; And each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too. But when tomorrow starts without me please try to understand, That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand. If I could relive yesterday just even for awhile, I'd say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile. I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad; I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had. So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart For every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart. David M Romano
  7. Final Hymn Lord Of All Hopefulness. Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy Whose trust ever child like, no cares could destroy Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray, Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith, Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe, Be there at our labours, and give us we pray, Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day. Lord of all kindliness, Lord of all grace, Your hands swift to welcome your arms to embrace, Be there at our homing, and give us, we pray, Your love in our hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day. Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm, Whose voice is contentment whose presence is balm, Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray, Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day. Jan Struther (1901–1953)
