6. Do I need a license to drive electric
vehicle?
 Depends on the area where you live, you might need license to drive an
electric vehicle
 An Electric vehicle with power rating less than 250W and maximum speed
less than 25kmph need not be registered or the driver doesn’t require
license to drive (in India)
 Cars, generally need registration and driver has to have license

7. Are electric cars eco-friendly?
 If an electric car is considered as a stand alone entity then it is ecofriendly
 Electric cars have zero/low tail pipe emission
 If the electricity for electric cars are generated completely from renewable
sources then they can be considered as 100 % eco-friendly
 Electricity is being generated from thermal power stations and the
conversion of chemical energy to electric energy pollutes environment

 Yes
 Electric vehicles are manufactured meeting all the safety standards for a
vehicle
 People asks about the safety of electric vehicle battery in accidents
 They are safe

charging technique for vehicles which travels less than 100 km per day

10. Can we go for long drives in electric
car?
 If charging stations are available then we can go for longer distance in
electric vehicle
 Most of the electric cars travel around 200km with one full charged battery
 Fast charging stations and public charging stations are necessary for
convenient drive for a long distance

11. What is the life span of Electric Car
battery?
 High voltage battery of electric vehicle normally lasts for 5 to 7 years
 Life of the battery depends on how it is being used
 Number of charge discharge cycles, environmental conditions etc. affects
the life of the battery

12. Why are electric cars so expensive?
 Electric vehicle battery is the most expensive component in an electric car
 Electric vehicle technology is not as matured as infernal combustion
engine vehicle technology
 Manufacturers just started commercial production of EVs recently

13. How much to spend for maintenance
of EV?
 Maintenance cost of electric vehicles are around 35% less than that of
conventional vehicles
 Oil changes, repair of exhaust systems, engine repair, frequent
maintenance of clutch, gearbox etc. are completely unnecessary in an
electric vehicle

14. How would be the driving experience
is an electric vehicle?
 Electric cars use electric motors for propulsion
 Highly versatile speed torque characteristics of electric motor provides the
required sporty experience
 Performance at low speed (less vibration, high and smooth acceleration) is
impressive in an EV
 All wheel drive is also available

15. Why don’t vehicle manufacturers
develop electric car?
 They started developing electric cars and officially declared their plans
about electric vehicles
 Tesla plans to sell 0.5 million electric cars by 2018
 Volkswagen would sell 2-3 million electric cars by 2025
 Ford’s plan is to develop 13 new electric vehicle models by 2020
 Volvo will sell 1 million electric cars by 2025
 Honda plans to shift their 2/3 of total production to electrified vehicles by
2030 (BEVs, HEVs, and PHEVs)
 BMW will be selling 15-25% of their total cars as electric vehicle by 2025
 Chinese manufacturers aim to sell 4.5 million EVs annually by 2020

16. Why would we go for EV rather than
gasoline vehicle?
 A few reasons are
 Depletion of fossil fuels
 To reduce environmental pollution
 Evs are highly versatile and energy efficient
 Less noise

17. Could power system supply enough
energy to large no. of EVs?
 Electric vehicles are relatively large loads to the power utility grid
 Power system capacity would also increase as number of EVs increases

18. Why are charging stations not that
common?
 Charging stations are necessary to charge electric vehicles
 Number of electric vehicles is directly affects the number of charging
stations
 Charging stations are common in the countries where electric vehicle are
common
 Tesla motors installed large number of charging stations in United States
 They setup electric vehicle charging stations all over the world
